Youths Can Be Empowered Through Music – Willy Rock

Since his venture into the showbiz world, Obi Handsome Obiefule Oguayo popularly known as “Willy Rock”, has made meaningful contributions towards the growth of the industry hence his name, rings bell in the society at large.

Though based in Switzerland, the Umuagu, Obowo LGA born singer and entertainer who’s one of hit tracks is ” Trust no one”, beard his mind on his childhood, passion and future plans.
Expert: What is your real and showbiz names
     Resp: My real names are Obi Handsome Obiefule Oguayo a.k.a Willy Rock in showbiz world.
Expert: Where in Nigeria are you from
     Resp: I’m from Umuagu autonomous community in Obowo L.G.A Imo state.
Expert: When did you leave Nigeria for Switzerland
    Resp: I left Nigeria for Switzerland in early 2000.
Expert: Talk to us about your childhood days back in Nigeria
    Resp:  My childhood was really rough, tough and hard, being orphaned of both parents at the tender age of four (I never knew my father he died before I was barely 2 years and my mother followed suit almost 3 years later. So, basically i had nobody to carter for me, I became a man even before i could finish barely being a boy.
Expert: Whats your education background like
   Resp: I was self educated, I still am. Believe me when I say i’ve acquired more knowledge and wisdom being self taught more than i could have had acquire in contemporary or formal classroom education.
Expert: Today you are a musician was that your ambition in life
    Resp: I was already on my own by the age of 12 and music happened to be my only companion. So, yes music was my ambition in life.
Expert: Did you study music in school
     Resp: No! Music was inborn.
Expert: Do you have musicians in your family lineage
     Resp: No! I am the only one in my family who is a musician.
Expert: Willy what genre of music do you play
  Resp:   I would say i do all kinds on music, rap, reggae, sentimental just name it, actually i improvise.
Expert: Do you play any music instruments
       Resp: Yes! My voice. Many people don’t know a voice is an instrument on its own.
Expert: What of your lyrics do you write them
      Resp: Yes! I do write all my lyrics.
Expert: Your songs are usually beautiful who mentored you
        Resp: Ozzidi King Sunny Okosun (that was way back before he became an Evangelist)
Expert: Who is your role model in the music world
     Resp:  Internationally I will say Michael Jackson and Bob Marley, back home Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Expert: How many singles do you have now
      Resp: I have three single now “Adaeze” “Mumu button” and “Front Page News.”
Expert: Any albums yet
      Resp: I have release 2 albums in the past, 2011 “Wind of change” and 2013 “Naija Changes.”
Expert: Musicians in Nigeria complain doing music as a profession is very difficult, is it the same in Switzerland
       Resp: Music business is virtually the same all over the world but the thing is, how much are you willing to sacrifice in terms of hardwork. Nobody told you it is going to be easy.
Expert: As a successful musician whats your advice to upcoming musicians
       Resp: My sincere to them is hard work pays, work hard and stay focused, be consistent and be true to yourself and your art.
Expert: Observers say that the lifestyle of most musicians ruins them, doing drugs, womanizing  alcoholism and what have you, What do you think.
        Resp: Not just musicians anyway, too much of everything is bad. Be it doing drugs, womanizing, or even “manizing” laughs…, alcoholism and all can ruin someone’s life musician or not!
Expert: Nigeria is still a developing economy, how can music be used for socio economic development of the nation
       Resp: Music can be use to empower the youths to work hard and to think for themselves by spreading positive and meaningful messages in songs and lyrics.
Expert: Willy lets get personal are you married, if not when are you planning to tie the knots
       Resp: No! Not yet married, I will get married when the time comes.
Expert: Whats your favorite meal
      Resp:  Haaa! Dem plenty o!! But I like banga (white) soup, Okra with pounded yam. I also like Nigeria jollof…laughs.
Expert: How do you like to dress, corporate, casual, unsual
     Resp:  I like to dress according to the occassion but most times whatever I feel comfortable in.
Expert: Do you wear tatoos
       Resp: No! I don’t wear tatoos.
Expert: Whats your impression of those that tatoo massively
      Resp: Tatoo is an art form, I don’t have problem with those that wear tatoos.
Expert: What do you consider your strenght as a person
       Resp: My empathic nature.
Expert: Whats your weakness

Expert: 2019 is just a couple of days old, whats your new year resolution
    Resp:   I don’t make resolution for new years.
Expert: Which of your songs is your favorite
       Resp: Now this is hard to say, it’s just like having many children and try to say this or those are my favorite, other children will get jealous. So what I will do is I am going to whisper it in your ear so other children won’t hear it and get jealous. Whispering… “Adaeze” “I Love You” “Melodie d’amour” “Changes” “Man Enough” “Trust no one” “Life” “Front Page News.” Inshort, I love all my songs!
Expert: In the next 5 years where do you intend to see yourself in the music industry
    Resp:   I will like rubbing minds with the who is who in the music business, in the society, and beyond. Going places some people never believed I would.
Expert: Any regrets as a person
    Resp:    I live a charmed life no regrets whatsoever.
