War without end:
Imo APC Expels guber candidate, Hope Uzodinma
…as Court orders arrest of caretaker chair
…Okorocha’s senatorial ambition uncertain
Barely three weeks to the much talked about 2019 general elections with preparations on top gear, the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been visited with another round of crisis as the two opposing executive members are still at loggerheads hence the insensate sanctions and expulsion of members on what has been described as politics of supremecy.
Just yesterday, Thursday 24th January, 2019, the Dan Nwafor led executive of the party during a press conference at the party’s headquarters at Works Layout, Owerri the state capital, announced the expulsion of the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Sen. Hope Uzodinma citing his inordinate and anti-party activities he perpetuated alongside his alleged cohorts.
Mr. Dan Nwafor stated that Uzodinma’s expulsion became necessary in order to save the soul of the party in the state which he said has been threatened by the alleged actions of its guber candidate.
He went further to accuse Sen. Uzodinma of sponsoring opposing party candidates hence Imo APC, by implication, will neither recognize nor support him in the forthcoming general election since he is no longer a member of the party.
In his word, “as the duly and validly elected APC Executive in Imo State, we have looked at the issues raised by APC Omuma Ward and we have seen merit in the decision to expel Sen. Hope Uzodinma for anti-party activities. “We are only affirming the actions of the ward executive of Sen. Hope Uzodinma in line with the constitutional provision of our party.
“So regrettably, at this time, we need to save the soul of our party. The party cannot at this time allow its members to divide and reduce the moral of our party faithfuls.
“We cannot allow a candidate of our party to continue to engage in anti-party activities by sponsoring opposing party candidate. “So right now, APC in Imo will not and cannot recognize or support Sen. Hope Uzodinma as the candidate of the party in the state because he is no longer a member of our party.
“And we call upon all party faithfuls in the state to abide by this decision of APC in Imo State. Not obeying the decision will amount to disobedience and the consequences as spelt out in the constitution of our party.” Nwafor stated.
In another development, a Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, yesterday, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of members of the Adams Oshiomhole- recognised Caretaker Committee of APC in Imo state under the leadership of, Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo.
The presiding Judge, Justice M. T Salihu, ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest members of the Caretaker Committee which include, Marcellinus Nlemigbo, Nzekwe Ugochukwu, Lady Love Ineh, Canice Nwachukwu, Josephine Nnorom, Paul Para, Linus Ineoha and
The Judge in his ruling, said they should be arrested for assaulting a bailiff, Nwawi Ogugua, who came to serve Court proceedings on members of the Committee in their factional office.
Justice Salihu ordered that all the members of the Committee, excluding one, Enyinnaya Onuegbu, who was the only person in Court, should be arrested and brought before the Court on January 31.
They are to explain why they should not be committed to prison for attacking an officer of the Court who was carrying out his legitimate duties.
It will be recalled the bailiff who had gone to serve Court Summons on the Caretaker Committee members was allegedly beaten to a pulp by thugs at the instance of the chairman.
The Suit, No. FHC/OW/CS/01/2019 was instituted by the Imo State APC Chairman, Hon Daniel Nwafor, challenging the dissolution of the elected State Executive by the National leadership of the party with the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, the Inspector General of Police and the nine members of the Committee as respondents.
The recent development which has sent fear to the camp of the Governor of the state, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha a source revealed, could cause him his senatorial ambition hence there is peace nor coordination to purse the election which is around the conner. There said to be uncertainty in the camp of the governor hence calls for meetings.
When contacted, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Imo APC, Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo has debunked the said expulsion of the party’s governorship candidate from the party.
He said that Dan Nwafor led executive of the party has long been dissolved by the party, hence it has no power to take any decision concerning the party in the state.
Adding his voice, the State Publicity Secretary of APC Imo State, Chief Enyinnya Onuegbu in clear terms stated that removal of Dan Nwafor led executive from the office was a concluded, settled and history hence, he cannot act as chairman.
