This season’s resort collections took place in a variety of backdrops, from Louis Vuitton’s show in a Barcelona park designed by architect Antoni Gaudi to Balenciaga’s runway set against the backdrop of Shanghai’s cityscape, Dior’s presentation in the rolling hills of Scotland and Chanel’s in the French seaside town of Marseille.
And the ideas presented were equally diverse: Alessandro Michele presented his debut collection for Valentino in the middle of Milan Men’s Fashion Week, showcasing a mix of colorful fabrics, prints, textures, bows and ruffles that felt maximalist in the best possible way; Cemena Camali offered a flawless interpretation of bohemian style with high-waisted jeans at Chloé; Sabato de Sarno brought fringe to denim at Gucci.
There were modern ’60s minis at both Gucci and Prada, plenty of plaid at Dior and Rabanne, Olympic fever was on the rise with a sporty vibe at Wales Bonner and Coperni’s signature stripes, and The Row made its strongest statement yet of the ’90s trend of lace-trimmed slips worn over trousers. Below, we take a look at some of the key looks and moments.
