NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Los Angeles (KABC) — A 27-year-old woman is dead after a hit-and-run crash in North Hollywood and police are asking for help finding the driver.
The incident happened around 7pm on Friday at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue.
Police said the woman, identified by family as Leida Medina, was crossing the street when she was struck by a Toyota Corolla heading west on Victory Boulevard. She was taken to a hospital but later died.
“I saw the devastation that followed,” Brenda Galdames said. “It’s really heavy. You don’t really understand it until you see it. It’s heartbreaking. It’s even more horrifying that we don’t know who the perpetrator is until it’s confirmed.”
The Corolla was later found abandoned along the curb on Victory Boulevard, east of Troost Avenue. Police did not have a detailed description of the suspect, other than to say he was a man in his 50s who “fled the scene on foot without identifying himself or providing assistance as required by law.”
“Raida was not only a loving wife, but a wonderful daughter, sister, grandmother and friend,” the Medina family statement read. “She loved all things Halloween, running and hair and makeup. Her family is heartbroken and is asking for the community’s help in identifying the driver responsible for this senseless act. We urge anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward.”
Anyone with information about the accident or the suspect is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department at 818-644-8028 or 877-527-3247. To make an anonymous tip, contact Los Angeles Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or www.lacrimestoppers.org.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been set up to help Medina’s family with medical and funeral expenses.
“I really hope they fight about who did this to them. It’s not fair. It’s really not fair,” Galdames said.
