The otter leaves a trail.
A woman in Malaysia was seen crying in a pool of her own blood after being attacked by a pack of otters.
The unidentified victim was reportedly attacked by eight of the beasts while jogging in Tanjung Aru Recreation Park in Sabah, Viral Press reported.
Accompanying footage shows eight of the weasels fleeing the scene after the attack.
Meanwhile, a woman wearing dark pink running tights and a black shirt was photographed sitting on the curb with tears in her eyes, blood running down her arms and head, and several cuts on her legs.
The victim was taken to hospital and a wildlife team was dispatched to the park to monitor the otter.
Sabah Wildlife Department director Roland Oliver Niung said investigations revealed that the animals, which are said to live nearby, had entered the park to forage for food in the pond.
He said the otters had previously visited the park without incident and the attack was likely the result of a “change in behaviour” caused by visitors feeding them.
To prevent future attacks, wildlife officials plan to strengthen fencing around the park and monitor it to keep animals out.
“We ask that anyone who sees an otter after the restoration is completed report it to the park rangers,” Niung said.
Meanwhile, the public is urged to avoid going near the fence or coming into contact with wild animals to reduce the chance of an attack.
While this may seem overzealous, this is not the first time that someone has been attacked in Southeast Asia by otters, which are in the same family as honey badgers and wolverines.
In 2021, a man in Singapore was hospitalized after he was reportedly attacked by a swarm of aggressive aquatic frogs, biting him 26 times in 10 seconds.
“I honestly thought I was going to die. I thought they were going to kill me,” said devastated victim Graham George Spencer.
