Opposition leader Raila Odinga has revealed his educational background as he runs for the position of chairman of the African Union Commission.
Raila will likely rely on his extensive academic background, as well as his experience with the AU, to try to win a seat.
He previously served as High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa (2018-2023).
During his tenure on the Commission, he strengthened the Commission’s efforts in the implementation of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).
A look at his resume, which was part of his submitted documents, reveals that the ODM leader holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and production technology.
He got it from the Magdeburg University of Technology.Fuhr & Otto von Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany.
He also holds a Senior Management Diploma from the Kenya Institute of Management.
Raila is also certified in Standardisation and Quality Control in Kenya. Graduated from the University of Denver, Colorado, USA.
Other qualifications listed on his resume include the establishment of physical physical standards and standard specifications with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA.Certified by the British Standards Institution (BSI Group).
Raila is the recipient of several honours including the Greater Good Award from Mizani Africa and a Doctor of Science (honorary degree) from Jaramogi Ogu.Inga Odinga University of Science and Technology, London, UK and BEFFTA Global Leadership Award in the Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and the Arts category.
Other awards she holds include Embrace Women, Building Bridges in Kenya, The Golden Jubilee Award, a PhD in Social Development Leadership (honorary degree) from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Kuala Lumpur, and a Doctor of Letters (honorary degree) from Maseno University.
He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in the United States in 2009 and a Doctor of Laws (LLD) (Honorary Degree) from the University of Nairobi in 2008.
In 2008, he also received and was awarded the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) award for his experience at AU.
President William Ruto is expected to formally announce his candidacy on Tuesday.
