New documents emerged on Friday, showing that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati has rejected an offer of cash compensation or land in a 40:60 ratio by the Mysore Metropolitan Development Authority (MUDA) and has “insisted” on an alternative plot.
This is according to the minutes of a MUDA meeting in December 2017, where Parvathi’s case was discussed.
Earlier this week, attention was drawn to a letter Parvati wrote in 2014 seeking compensation, in which bleach was used to erase lines that suggested there was an alleged cover-up.
The 2017 MUDA meeting contradicts Siddaramaiah’s explanation that his wife had made no specific demand to MUDA. It was MUDA that gave the plot to his wife in a 50:50 ratio, meaning she got half the land back in the form of a developed plot. This was in lieu of the 3.16 acres of her land that MUDA had parceled out.
Reacting to this on Twitter, JD(S) state president and Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy pointed out that Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister when MUDA decided to give an alternative site to Parvati in December 2017.
“…You are falsely alleging that neither you nor your family members have any role in the allotment of land by MUDA. You know Kannada and understand the language. Are you not a self-proclaimed lawyer? Please read the available records carefully,” Kumaraswamy said.
“This is a record from MUDA. What do you think about this? To you is this a memo, a record or an order? Super CM, if they say ‘alleged’, what else can the MUDA officials do?,” Kumaraswamy said. “So tell me who is hiding what? Has the stain been erased with bleach?”
Siddaramaiah faces the threat of investigation and prosecution following Governor Thawarchand Gehlot’s sanction on August 17. Siddaramaiah has filed a case in the High Court challenging the governor’s decision.
