Today, some new images of the iPhone SE 4 dummy unit were shared by the Japanese Apple blog Macotakara, and as we expected, they show a similar form factor to the iPhone 14. The blog also highlights compatibility with existing iPhone 14 cases and a larger size option that is unlikely to become a reality.
iPhone SE 4 dummy
Macotakara regularly shares dummy units of upcoming iPhone models, often giving us some sort of idea of what we can expect from future iPhones. This year is no exception, and the mockups are basically consistent with all previous rumors.
The dummy unit has a single rear camera, a mute switch instead of an action button, and a small notch at the top with Face ID.
The dimensions of the dummy unit are 146.7mm x 71.5mm x 7.8mm, the same as the existing iPhone 14. According to the blog, the soft TPU case for the iPhone 14 will fit snugly, although the cutout for the iPhone 14’s camera is excessive. It’s a dual camera setup as opposed to the single camera on the upcoming iPhone SE 4.
We also note that while the volume and side buttons are nearly identical, the mute switch is clearly slightly smaller than on the iPhone 14.
Larger size option: less likely
According to the blog, there’s also a larger size option that’s the same size as the iPhone 14 Plus (incorrectly called 6.5 inches, but it’s actually 6.7 inches).
Considering the fact that there have been zero reports of a larger size option for the upcoming iPhone SE 4 so far, it’s unlikely that this will actually lead to anything. While this is an interesting move, it is probably not the case, as has been speculated for a long time. It’s not happening.
Mako Takara claims that the “final precision design and size development” have not yet been determined, and that there is “possibility” that there will be only one size.
I think it’s probably only one size. Generally speaking, new, previously unheralded Apple products don’t arrive this late in development. And even if a larger iPhone SE 4 is in the works, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll be the only one to learn about it for the first time. time.
While we certainly won’t see the larger iPhone SE 4 at the spring launch, there’s always a chance it will arrive much later than the smaller model.
summary
Regardless of whether there’s a larger size option, the iPhone SE 4 will launch next spring with a 6.1-inch OLED display, an A18 chip with support for Apple Intelligence, and a single rear camera system that shares the same 48MP sensor. Apple is also expected to debut its first-ever 5G modem.
