UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Alyssa Thomas recorded her 15th career triple-double and spoiled Caitlin Clark’s playoff debut, but the Connecticut Suns beat the Indiana Fever 93-69 in Game 1 of a best-of-three series on Sunday.
Thomas finished with 12 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his fourth triple-double of the postseason.
Marina Mabry led the third-seeded Suns with 27 points, 20 of which came in the second half, the most points by a reserve player in WNBA playoff history, according to ESPN Research.
Game 2 would be played Wednesday night in Connecticut, with a decisive Game 3 potentially being played Friday night in Indiana, if necessary.
Clark, who was named the Associated Press Rookie of the Year on the same day, bounced back from a tough start to finish with 11 points and eight assists. Kelsey Mitchell scored 21 points and Aaliyah Boston added 17 points and 11 rebounds for Indiana.
The Suns came into the game with 222 playoff appearances, while the Fever had just 19 and no experience among their starters. It was Indiana’s first playoff appearance since 2016, when Connecticut coach Stephanie White led the Fever.
