NEW ORLEANS (PRESS RELEASE) – Chef Alon Shaya and the Shaya Burnett Foundation will host their second annual charity dinner for the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC), the city’s leading center for Career and Technical Education (CTE). This cause is especially close to home for Chef Alon as his own CTE teacher, Donna Burnett, inspired and encouraged him to discover his passion for cooking and helped him land his first kitchen job. Career and technical education changed his life forever, ultimately leading to the founding of the Shaya Burnett Foundation and his support of NOCC.
The first charity dinner, held in fall 2022, raised more than $100,000 to outfit NOCC’s new culinary lab with state-of-the-art kitchen tools and appliances. Funds raised at this year’s event, which will be held later this month, will go towards continued support of NOCC’s culinary arts programs, allowing the center to continue providing valuable training to students without financial barriers.
The event will take place at Saba on Monday, September 23rd at 6pm and will feature a decadent four-course family-style menu curated by Chef Alon and a NOCC Culinary Arts student who created the dessert course. There will also be three signature cocktails and three wine pairings served throughout the evening.
First course:
Pita Blue crab Hummus Hummus with fried chickpeas, tzatziki, zog, harissa, soft-boiled egg and pickles Labneh with salted peppers and radishes Tersi Lutenica with Aleppo and chilli Market crudités
Second course:
Moroccan Carrot Salad with Labneh and Chermoula Vinaigrette Snapper Crudo with Lemon, Ginger and Avocado
Third course:
Roasted lamb loin with tsingweed, citrus and parsley salad Whole roasted pompano with tahini, raisins and pine nuts
side:
Moroccan spiced jewel rice, garlic and spiced green beans, charred peppers
