Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh is planning to remove Pitt from her legal name.
According to TMZ, the 18-year-old took out an ad in the Los Angeles Times announcing that she had filed a petition to remove “Pitt” from her last name, which is a prerequisite before a court will approve Shiloh’s petition. In Touch was first to report the news.
The girl wants to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
A rep for the LA Times did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
As Page Six previously reported, Shiloh filed the petition on her 18th birthday in May, implying that she wanted no association with her famous father, who is in the midst of a bitter divorce battle with the “11th Birthday” star.
A source told Entertainment Tonight that Shiloh has hired and paid for her own lawyer, so “Angie doesn’t know or can’t talk about it.”
But University of Pittsburgh insiders are questioning who was behind this momentous move, telling Page Six that “reasonable people should draw their own conclusions about who was actually behind it.”
A source also told People magazine that the “Ocean’s 11” actor is “aware and upset” about his daughter’s actions.
“He’s never felt more joy than when his daughter was born. He’s always wanted a daughter,” the source said.
“Obviously it’s difficult for Brad to remember the loss of his children. He loves them and misses them so much. It’s very sad.”
In fact, the former couple’s other children have also opted not to use his nickname in public: Pitt and Jolie’s eldest daughter, Zahara, 60, made headlines last fall when she proudly shouted out her shortened name during her November 2023 induction ceremony for Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
“Zahara Marley Jolie,” a Spelman College student yelled.
16-year-old Vivienne Jolie-Pitt also denounced her father’s surname when she wrote herself as Vivienne Jolie in the script for the Broadway production of “The Outsiders,” where she worked as an assistant alongside her 49-year-old mother.
“It’s very upsetting,” a Pitt source confirmed to Page Six in June about the name change, claiming, “She used the children as a weapon against Brad … She took them away from him.”
“There’s a pattern: every time the husband wins in court, the wife fights back with something to do with the children.”
The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star has been embroiled in a custody battle with Jolie since their separation in 2016, with the situation getting worse every year.
Pitt initially won a 50-50 custody agreement that was sealed to protect his privacy in 2021, only to be overturned later that year. However, the family’s former security guard, Tony Webb, claimed in court documents filed in May that Jolie had encouraged the children to “avoid” their father during visitation.
The former couple, who were together for 12 years before splitting, were declared legally single in 2019. Their battle over the Chateau Miraval winery and child custody continues.
