There is less than a month until Apple’s big September event, where the Cupertino company is expected to unveil a ton of new products. It is expected to feature at least four new iPhones: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. It is also expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 10, and it may even reveal improved versions of Apple’s earbuds, such as the Airpods 4 and Apple Airpods Max 2.
Compared to rivals Samsung and Google, Apple tends to be tight-lipped about rumors, but that doesn’t mean the company isn’t immune to leaks.
We’ve rounded up seven of the top rumors we’ve uncovered to give you an idea of what to expect when Apple finally unveils its next-generation iPhones and other devices.
Top iPhone 16 rumors
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have even larger screens
It looks like Apple is really thinking big this year, as there are multiple rumors that the iPhone 16 Pro will be larger in size: The regular iPhone 16 Pro is expected to grow from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, making it a more mid-sized smartphone.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to be 6.9 inches, a pretty big jump from the 6.7 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. By comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL are both 6.8 inches. That means the new iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the biggest non-foldable US flagship.
Light, camera and capture buttons
While there are conflicting rumors on this, what’s clear is that Apple will reportedly add a so-called Capture button to at least some iPhone 16 models. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this dedicated camera button will function just like a regular camera: Pressing the button halfway down will activate autofocus, and pressing it all the way down will take the photo.
Even more interesting is that you can swipe your finger over the capture button to zoom in and out while taking a photo or video. Apple is expected to add this feature to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, but it’s quite possible it will make it to the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus as well.
Price of iPhone 16
For much of the summer, it felt like tech companies, from streamers to manufacturers, had all agreed to raise prices, with recent rumors suggesting that Apple will keep iPhone prices flat and only give the iPhone 16 Pro a small price increase.
The base level of each iPhone 16 is expected to remain the same. As with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple is likely to drop the 128GB storage capacity on the iPhone 16 Pro, which would raise the price by $100 to $1,099.
Apple Watch Series 10 Rumors
Bigger Display
Apparently, 2024 will be the year that Apple makes major changes to all of its products, with the Apple Watch Series 10 rumored to have the biggest design change since the Apple Watch 7. According to rumors, the Apple Watch will be enlarged from the current 41mm and 45mm sizes to 45mm and 49mm and will be released in two versions.
If the renders are to be believed, the Apple Watch 10 will have a 2-inch display, which could make it the largest Apple Watch yet. Despite the larger display, it will have thinner bezels, which could make it smaller than the 1.93-inch Apple Watch Ultra.
Detecting sleep apnea and hypertension
It would be a great reason to buy Apple’s next smartwatch if Apple can bring sleep apnea detection and blood pressure tracking to the Apple Watch 10. Unfortunately, that functionality is still up in the air, so it’s down to luck whether the new watch will have these features or not.
Neither feature worked well in testing, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. Sleep apnea can also be effective at tracking blood oxygen saturation, but Apple can’t get around it because it was sued by Masimo for patent infringement.
If Apple doesn’t find a workaround for any of the features, we might not see them until next year, but conflicting reports suggest they’ll debut this year.
Apple Airpods 4 Rumors
Two new versions available
Apple hasn’t updated the original AirPods since the third generation was released in 2021. However, new AirPods will reportedly be unveiled at Apple’s September event. Apple is reportedly considering releasing a more affordable set to replace the AirPods 2, which it kept as a cheaper option, as well as a successor to the AirPods 3.
Aside from price, the big difference between the two potential versions is ANC: The pricier AirPods 3 successor is expected to offer active noise cancellation, which is currently only available on the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro models.
