Armie Hammer has faced a storm of shocking allegations, including sexual abuse and an obsessive interest in cannibalism, which he admits led to “the death of my self-esteem, the death of my career.”
Controversial actor Armie Hammer has spoken out about his lifestyle before shocking allegations emerged about him.
More than three years ago, the “Call Me By Your Name” star faced a barrage of shocking accusations, including one about an obsessive interest in cannibalism, which he admits led to “loss of self-esteem, loss of career.” He was accused of sexual abuse by four women, but the star denied the claims and maintained the relationships were consensual.
The allegations changed his life forever, leading to him being fired from his WME agent, his publicist, and future film projects. Hammer’s cannibalistic obsessions came to light following abuse allegations by a former girlfriend. In February 2021, she accused Hammer of “violently” raping and physically abusing her.
He has always vehemently denied the allegations, insisting that any sexual activity was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and with the participation of both parties.” After the allegations emerged, other women came forward with similar accusations, claiming that he had several extreme fetishes, including cannibalism.
Speaking on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast about the police investigation into the allegations, Hammer said: “They looked at phone calls, they looked at emails, they looked at witness statements. They investigated me for two and a half years, and if they could have caught someone like me in that time, it would have been a huge help to the LAPD.”
“And two and a half years later, they came to the conclusion that there was no evidence a crime had been committed,” he said.He said he underwent a “full psychological evaluation” while in the Cayman Islands as he fought for custody of their daughter Harper and son Ford during his divorce battle with Elizabeth Chambers.
“So I had to undergo an extensive psychological evaluation that lasted several months, and the report at the end of it was fantastic,” he claimed. “They were like, ‘He has problems,[but]he’s not who people say he is.'” The controversial actor has been sober since spending time in rehab to deal with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as sexual issues.
Before he was shunned by Hollywood and his fans, he was “drinking a lot” and “doing a lot of drugs,” adding, “I partied a lot. I was really careless about what I texted and did some really risky things that were really stupid!”
Maher questioned Hammer about a video in 2021 in which he appears to be taking drugs and drinking alcohol in a car. Hammer detailed what happened, saying, “To be fair, it was MDMA. It’s a little hazy. Who hasn’t taken MDMA in the passenger seat of a car?” When asked if he was driving, Hammer replied, “Maybe I was.”
“I was also, 100% certain, driving irresponsibly and, looking back, doing all sorts of crazy things. Looking back, there’s no way I wouldn’t have unwittingly foreseen this happening. It was self-destructive,” Hammer added.
Maher also questioned why Hammer would take a knife and carve her initials into another woman’s private parts, to which Hammer admitted, “Sometimes, especially when you’re drunk or whatever, you get into this mood and you start thinking, ‘This is a great idea!’ And then you think, wait a minute, people get tattoos of each other’s initials all the time. And by the way, I’m not doing surgery. This was all in the context of a consensual relationship that was discussed and agreed upon in advance between two people.”
