Political parties in the Azimio La Umoha coalition are calling for Raila Odinga to withdraw from the ODM party coalition over his move to work with President William Ruto’s government.
The three parties, PNU, Jubilee and DAP-K, said Azimio’s leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, had convened a meeting to discuss the future of the coalition.
They want to explore options that would allow the coalition to better monitor and restrain the Kenya Kwanza regime.
Wipers leader Kalonzo Musioka on Sunday, during a church service in Kirinyaga, said it is a democratic right for party members to join the opposition or government but President William Ruto is running an unconstitutional government following the recent Generation Z protests.
Kalonzo said his broad-based government was built on the blood of young people who lost their lives campaigning for better governance.
Meanwhile, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni accused ODM of double standards, claiming it goes against the spirit of the 2010 Constitution.
The former Ndaragua MP added that some leaders continue to bring up the name of retired President Uhuru to assert their own legitimacy.
Kioni said President Ruto had secured more support from the opposition and a broad-based government would continue to oppress Kenyans.
Meanwhile, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa revealed that the Azimio National Committee will convene this week to announce significant changes to Kenyans.
He said with ODM joining the Ruto administration, Kenyans are being pressured to support the Kwanzaa Kenya government.
Other leaders were Githunguri MP Gathoni wa Muchomba and former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu.
Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga’s proposal to appoint key allies to Ruto’s cabinet has opened up major rifts within the coalition.
Hassan Joho, John Mbadi, Wycliffe Oparanyah and Opiyo Wandai are among the opposition leaders who have since been appointed ministers.
