Ablekuma Central New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth organiser, Oliver Ofori Barr, has described the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Patrick Yaw Boamah, as a God-given man.
The young politician says the current MP is one of the outstanding MPs the country and the NPP have produced.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, he said the MP had served his constituents well.
“If you actually see the level of work that the incumbent councillor has done, you will admire him. You will wonder why it took so long to make him councillor. He has done really well for the constituency. Go and see the roads there, from Fadama to Tesano, Apenkwa, La Paz and surrounding areas. We are very grateful to him.”
He was optimistic that voters would renew the lawmakers’ terms.
When asked whether the NDC candidate, Baba Sadiq, was a threat, he said: “He (Sadiq) is not a politician.”
“He is not a threat. Even if voters vote in large numbers for their MPs’ performance, the NDC candidate is not entitled to even 25% of the valid votes.”
“The job of an MP is to make laws in Parliament and not necessarily build roads or projects, but when we elect an MP we need someone with exceptional lobbying skills. Patrick Yaw Boamah has lobbied for several road projects and other initiatives within his constituency.”
“His dedication to his job as a Member of Parliament is unprecedented. The NDC candidate is a good friend of mine but I have told him that his attempt to go to Parliament and contest against Patrick Yaw Boamah will not turn out as expected.”
“The NDC candidate is not a threat. Politics is no longer a place of lies. It’s a competition of ideas – what can you do better than your opponent?”
“But because the MP is operating so well, the NPP has been in parliament for three terms and is telling people that they should vote for someone else. Your good deeds will follow you. It’s bad timing for him and if he loses the election, he will never be seen in the constituency again.”
He, however, said the NPP was not complacent and considered the contest a foregone conclusion, adding that the party would do everything in its power to ensure victory and retain its seats.
