Oliver Barker-Volmawer, lead chair of #FixThe Country, released an audio recording of a phone call with an alleged minister of state, in which the minister suggested a meeting with the finance minister.
The release of the tape follows previous threats by the activists to provide evidence supporting their claims that they were being offered incentives, including $1 million in bribes, by the Minister of National Security to stop their activities. It is what I received.
In the eight-minute recording, the activist pointed out the valid reasons for the government’s engagement with #FixTheCountry on national issues.
However, the Cambridge Africa PhD student stressed the need to build a platform of engagement between both parties to protect public trust in pressure groups, and the need to travel to Ghana for the meeting. He pointed out that there is.
In response, the Minister also proposed to ensure safety when traveling to Ghana and to facilitate travel to Ghana.
“Hear me, your friend the general can also be a witness. If you come to Ghana, the security agencies will not do anything against you. Don’t worry, that’s not my intention. I’d never do that. Second, please be quiet so we can both come down and start talking. It’s not difficult to help you with your travels in terms of, I think we can probably talk about it, just my colleague the Minister of Finance joining me and some of your colleagues as well. We want to have it. Once we get to the point where we think it should be published or expanded, we will take action from there,” the minister said.
But Barker-Volmawer declined the offer to promote travel.
The minister then requested that the meeting be held in a safe location, but Prime Minister Barker Vormavor suggested that General Kuching of the Ghana Armed Forces, who was also on the call, act as a mediator between the two sides.
Following allegations that it had been offered bribes by National Security Minister Albert Khan Dapar, the ministry issued a statement denying the allegations.
However, the ministry revealed that talks did take place between the national security minister, the finance minister, and #FixTheCountry activists during 2021.
However, Mr Barker Vormawor had previously held a meeting with the Minister of National Security during which he claimed that the Minister had offered him a bribe.
“A secret meeting was held in a safe house between me and the Minister of National Security, and he has indeed requested to meet me, and I have the recording to confirm this. At that separate meeting, he offered $1 million to stop the operation. And just to be clear, this was before the first FixThe Country demonstration took place. , it’s not for Occupy JulorbiHouse. I think there’s some confusion in the public. Initially, the Minister of National Security told me privately that they were worried about terrorism and that my activities would mobilize young people. He told Joy News in a September 2023 interview.
Furthermore, the convener revealed that the Minister had conveyed on behalf of the government that he was prepared to offer an appointment if he so desired, in order to put an end to his activism.
