Joshua Carty made field goals of 46 and 37 yards on the Rams’ first two possessions for a 6-0 lead. Los Angeles settled on the first kick after Garvon Dexter Sr. sacked Stafford for an eight-yard loss.
Stafford completed 20 of 29 passes for 224 yards but committed two turnovers. The first helped give the Bears a lead they couldn’t relinquish.
Late in the first quarter, Montez Sweat sacked Stafford, causing a fumble that was recovered by Kyler Gordon at the Rams’ 16.
On a third-and-9 from the 15, Keenan Allen gave cornerback Tre’Davious White a pass interference penalty in the end zone, giving the Bears the ball at the 1.
With Williams under center and reserve center Doug Kramer Jr. at fullback, Roshon Johnson ran up the middle and scored a 1-yard touchdown run for the Bears with 5:42 left in the second quarter. That gave them a 7-6 lead.
The Rams were in position to regain the lead, but with 1:01 left in the first half, Carty’s 43-yard field goal attempt missed to the left.
Swift then completed a screen pass for a 27-yard gain, setting up Cairo Santos’ 40-yard field goal to extend the Bears’ lead to 10-6 with 0:09 left in the first half.
The Rams marched all over the field on the opening possession of the second half, but as the Bears defense stiffened inside the 10-yard line, Los Angeles settled for Carty’s 25-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 10-9.
The Bears’ offense then had its best drive of the game, covering 74 yards in 12 plays, culminating in Williams’ 9-yard TD strike to DJ Moore on third-and-5. The score increased the Bears’ lead to 17-9 with 2:37 left in the third quarter.
The Rams fought back with a six-play, 70-yard drive, culminating in a 3-yard touchdown run by running back Kyren Williams. However, Stafford was unable to complete the ensuing two-point conversion pass, leaving the Bears with a 17-15 lead.
The Bears scored two consecutive touchdowns on Swift’s 36-yard scamper up the middle, increasing the lead to 24-15 with 12 minutes, 26 seconds left.
Carty then made a 52-yard field goal with 8 minutes and 47 seconds remaining to make it 24-18. But the Rams never threatened again, with Taylor’s pinpoint punt and Brisker’s late interception sealing the victory.
With the win, the Bears move to 2-2 and will play the Panthers next Sunday at Soldier Field. Carolina fell to 1-3 with a 34-24 home loss to the Bengals on Sunday.
