Ben Affleck’s “erratic behavior” was reportedly a major factor in his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, according to a People magazine report published Saturday.
A source told the outlet that the “Argo” star’s unpredictable and “wild mood swings” ultimately drove a wedge between him and the “Hustlers” star, leading her to file for divorce last week after two years of marriage.
“He’s been exhibiting erratic behavior, extreme mood swings,” a source told People magazine, noting that his temperament would sometimes swing from “incredibly happy and warm, the best light emanating from him” to “the deepest, darkest behavior.”
“The truth is there was a lot of love between them but unfortunately it revealed some volatile mood swings which Ben couldn’t hide from the press no matter how hard he tried,” the source continued.
The source also speculated that Affleck was “sending a message to the press.”
The former couple were reportedly “attempting to resolve their issues” around the time of their separation, which Lopez specified in her filing as April 26. But it was to no avail: The “On the Floor” singer officially filed for divorce on Aug. 20, the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding.
“They were trying to get through it but the mood swings, the big highs and big lows spoke to the toxicity that pervades and no one can help them – they have to help themselves,” the source claimed.
“But I wouldn’t be so bold as to say there’s no love. Of course there is.”
The source concluded: “The whole world was rooting for them, but who he said he was was one thing, and who he actually was another.”
Representatives for Affleck and Lopez did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Earlier Saturday, a Page Six source also detailed Affleck’s “dark side,” saying Lopez was duped into this whirlwind romance before she really knew who she was marrying.
“She truly believed this was the greatest love story she’d ever known and that she finally had her fairy tale chance,” a Hollywood source who knows the couple said. “She never gave any thought to who the actual man in the fairy tale was.”
The source also claimed that “great love, which Jennifer believes in” is “not in[Ben’s]DNA.”
“There’s a darkness about Ben that no one can solve. Not even (ex-wife) Jen Garner could solve it, and no amount of success could solve it.”
