We had our annual girls weekend a few weeks ago, and I didn’t have my glasses with me when I went to dinner. It was too big to fit in a clutch, and it was a cute clutch…I mean, I didn’t intend to prioritize visibility over a cute bag!
Of course, in the restaurant we visited, the food was good, but the lighting was dim and the font on the menu… small. I mean, it felt seriously… microscopic. OK, maybe it wasn’t that small, but does anyone else feel like restaurant menus are shrinking, or is that just a 40’s thing?? I mean, most of my friends We’re all dealing with the “reader just going out to dinner” situation.
These trendy reading glasses are a game changer: ThinOptics
But my friend Amanda (who is basically my style muse. Remember this jacket? Remember that dress? She has impeccable taste) came up with the perfect solution. He came up with this. It’s a very small reader that can fit into even the smallest bag. genius.
These are called ThinOptics and honestly, they are a game changer. Both nights we passed them around the table as we, both in our 40s, squinted at the menu. And not only does it fit in the smallest clutch I own, it’s also incredibly chic. Who would have thought that readers might actually find it sexy?

This YSL bag is one of my favorites, but once you put your phone and lip gloss in it, there’s hardly any room for your glasses. Thankfully, this slim little case fits snugly into a small back pocket. I’m still amazed at how incredibly thin it is.

The pair on the left below is the one we considered throughout the weekend, but there are actually smaller options as well, like the pair on the right. They lack the typical side arms and are designed to sit snugly on the nose, making them super compact.

To be honest, I was also skeptical at first. How do you keep them on without pinching or slipping? But when you actually wear them, they’re surprisingly comfortable. Another big advantage is that it’s surprisingly light and doesn’t leave any marks after you wear it.

There are lots of different options for this armless reader, from the case shown above (also a printed version) to phone cases and even keychain options. Each pair is made from shatter-resistant, optical-grade polycarbonate, and the bridge is made from a shape-memory metal called Nitinol (10 times more elastic than spring steel). It’s covered in medical grade silicone for added comfort.

I asked my mom to try it and she was equally impressed! These readers are not only practical, but a complete game changer for anyone looking for a stylish and portable solution.

And my friend Kim claims that she doesn’t “need” readers…but they have certainly helped her. 😜
