Bishop Brady sophomore’s golf career is going strong
Career taking off. Story by Mike Cronin. Madeline Savery is one of the top golfers in the state of New Hampshire and she’s only 15 years old. I like to get out there and go to new courses and meet new people in tournaments and things like that. The sophomore at Bishop Brady recently placed second in the state women’s amateur championship. My goal was to finish in the top 10 and I was really happy when I achieved that goal and even surpassed it to take second place and come home with some hardware. She is a five-time winner of the New Hampshire Golf Association’s Elite Women’s Player of the Year award. As a freshman, she helped the Giants place fifth overall and placed fourth in the state individual championship. As a sophomore, she’s swinging to go even higher. My strengths are probably how far I hit the ball and hitting the ball with my irons. I can just get good contact and get it on the green in regulation. But golf is all about adjustments and improvement and right now Savery is working hard on her short game. We are very lucky to have Maddie at Bishop Brady. She’s a great golfer, but she’s become an even better person after high school. Savery wants to play Division 1 golf in the South. She has a 3.9 GPA and a bright future ahead of her. I think Maddie is the most consistent golfer I’ve ever seen. Her ball striking is outstanding. She rarely hits a bad shot and is just an overall great player.
