NATIONWIDE — Meet Cara Johnson-Graves and Jenae Johnson-Carr, African-American sister and brother, who are also founders of Epic Everyday, a Black-owned lifestyle brand that proudly launched an inclusive line of accessories, apparel and home goods. Their products are designed to celebrate diversity and empower children of color who have been historically excluded. The collection features fun, functional and fashionable products that embody positivity through uniquely designed characters, making it an ideal choice for parents looking for expression and inspiration for their children.
Epic Everyday strives to empower kids and make them feel recognized and celebrated. With the empowering slogan, “Never Mediocre, Always EPIC!”, the brand’s mission is to affirm self-love and inspire kids. EPIC Everyday offers clothing, accessories, bedding and bath products that highlight expression and cater to busy family lifestyles.
“The lack of true inclusion is why we intentionally wanted to fill that void and change the narrative,” says Kara Johnson Graves. “Despite making up 15% of the population, less than 2% of products sold in stores and online represent us. As moms, my sister and I were shocked by the limited number of gifts and collectibles featuring authentic, relatable characters that look like our kids. We are committed to connecting creativity and culture, and joy is at the heart of everything we make. Every product is a conversation starter, and EPIC stands for Empowered, Positive, Innovative and Creative.”
Epic Everyday offers a vibrant kids’ lifestyle brand with best-selling items such as backpacks, hooded towels, tote bags and hoodies. These items feature characters kids can relate to and serve as tools to build self-esteem. The “mocha” characters represent a variety of skin tones and hair types, from light to deep brown and light to curly, encouraging positive self-reflection and fighting colorism and hair discrimination.
As Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) graduates and STEM professionals, Cara and Jenae know the importance of visibility and representation. Though they had no retail experience, they used their leadership skills, educational backgrounds, and motherly insights to create a brand that resonates with the next generation, inspires hope for future change-makers, and works toward a more inclusive world. Their inspiring journey has seen them featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Amazon, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Beyoncé’s Black Parade Route, and more.
Epic Everyday is more than just a brand. It’s a movement. By fostering community partnerships and offering visually affirming products, Cara and Jenae aim to empower children around the world. Their mission is to help boys and girls feel valued and visible through impactful connections. Additionally, they recently launched a Health & Beauty Collection that includes a line of scrub tops for adults and mini salon and barber capes for kids. The brand has donated more than $150,000 to communities in need in partnership with corporate sponsors and nonprofit outreach efforts.
“We aim to create items that encourage children to thrive and reach their full potential,” says Jenae Johnson Carr. “Our hope is that children will appreciate and celebrate their individuality. We look forward to seeing more Black-owned businesses grow and reflect Black culture.”
Epic Everyday is riding the growing wave of Black women-owned businesses and continues to grow steadily in 2024. By celebrating diversity and empowering children, Cara and Jenae hope to raise a generation of confident, driven, and resilient young people who will leave a lasting impact in their community and beyond.
