Body found in Audubon Park lagoon identified
Here’s the news to watch from WDSU. The body has been identified. The man found floating in the lagoon at Audubon Park has been identified as a 25-year-old medical student. Now police are actively investigating how this medical student got there and how he died. WDSU reporter Shea O’Connor joins us live from where the body was found. Shea, that’s correct. 25-year-old Michael Nacoli is actually from the Gonzales area, but his family is originally from Nigeria. We’ve heard he was reported missing the day before as well. In fact, he was found in this lagoon on Sunday morning. Now New Orleans Police are also confirming that Tulane Police had filed a missing person’s report the day before Neary’s body was found here. We just spoke to his family. They were too shocked to talk on camera. All they could do was confirm that it was him who was found here. We’ve heard Nacoli was a medical student. We have also heard that he recently moved to Denver, Colorado. He was in the Air Force for a time. Close friends say he was in town visiting family and friends in Nacoli. Some of his high school friends told us he attended East Ascension in Gonzales and was musically gifted. I spoke with one of his bandmates today, and he told me that this news is hard for everyone who knew and loved Michael. He was an incredibly smart, fun-loving guy who was a jokester that you just wanted to joke with. He made everyone feel welcome. It really breaks my heart to hear that someone who was like a brother to us has died in such a tragic way. At this time, authorities are trying to determine how he got to New Orleans. At this time, the New Orleans coroner says they have yet to determine the cause and manner of Michael’s death. Police are also investigating this as a private death, and of course, we will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available. We’ll be bringing you live coverage from Audubon Parr.
