After a long wait, the live-action Borderlands finally hits theaters this weekend, but before that, it screened for fans and critics in Los Angeles, and based on first impressions posted online, this Borderlands movie is a total flop.
Borderlands, which opens in theaters nationwide on August 9, is based on the popular looter shooter game developed by Gearbox and published by 2K Games. First announced in 2020A live-action film rated PG-13 by director Eli Roth I spent years in production hell.. And every time I look at itthis movie was pretty awful! But there was always a chance that the finished film would surprise us all and be great, but based on the overwhelmingly negative first impressions online, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
“The Borderlands is a disaster” Posted by critic Adriano Caporusso“Clamorous with every imaginable cliché, the film replaces the mayhem and imagination of the games with a lifeless, uninteresting and visually jarring flop, filled with annoying characters and a cast that just doesn’t have the slightest chemistry.”
Matthew Simpson, a critic at Movies We Texted About, said: Posts“This movie is so awful. I really wanted to like it, but the lackluster plot + a bunch of shoddy acting + being trapped in a weird place that looks fancy but is cheesy makes it a total disaster.” Simpson offered one positive comment, saying that Jack Black gave a “great” performance in the film, and was the only actor who “matched the energy of the game.”
“Borderlands feels like something naive business owners think the ‘cool kids’ would find appealing.” film critic Edgar Ortega tweeted:“The movie doesn’t have a single serious character moment and is full of cringey jokes that feel dated as soon as they come out of the actors’ mouths. It’s not bad, but it’s not good either. It’s a total mess.”
“Borderlands is hands down one of the worst movies of the year” Posted by critic Shaq Lambert“Fans will be upset that the characters (especially Tina) are portrayed inaccurately, and general moviegoers will be frustrated by what feels like a half-baked (Guardians of the Galaxy) rip-off.”
Similarly, freelance film critic Posted by Sean Patrick Kelly The film features “an extraordinary level of detail for those who have played the video game,” but most people “will not understand the original story.”It’s a imitation of the Guardians of the Galaxy.“
Not everyone totally hated the Borderlands movie…
However, there was also a more positive response. Many critics praised Jack Black, Cate Blanchett’s performance He also hinted that fans of the series will be delighted by the Easter eggs and references sprinkled throughout the film.
“Borderlands is a fun PG-13 action movie” Post Hollywood Handle“The film relies heavily on Cate Blanchett’s star power throughout, and she delivers. While nothing particularly outstanding, it’s enjoyable from start to finish and well-paced throughout. Jack Black is also a comedy master. Aside from a few corny flashbacks and some consistently bumbling performances, Borderlands is neither bad nor great.”
Borderlands content creator Killer Six said: He said the film was “better” than he expected, adding, “The story is a bit messy, as is typical of Borderlands, but there’s humour and thoughtfulness to it. There’s a lot of fan service, but I’m not sure it will ultimately resonate. 6.75/10.”
Well, the Borderlands movie doesn’t look like it’s going to be very good. I’m curious to see how it does at the box office, especially considering that a similar action-comedy movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, has already hit theaters and is doing very well. Will Borderlands continue the recent trend of video game movie adaptations being pretty good and successful, or will it burn out and fail? We’ll find out soon.
