Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. This is a type of cancer in which cancer cells develop in one or both breasts. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 2.3 million women worldwide are diagnosed with breast cancer.

The lobules are the glands in which milk is produced, and the milk ducts are the pathways by which milk travels from the glands to the nipple. Although these are common areas for breast cancer, cancer cells can also develop in the fatty and connective tissue present in the breast.

Here, let’s take a look at some of the lifestyle habits you should do to prevent it. breast cancer recurrence.

maintain a healthy weight

Being overweight, especially after menopause, increases estrogen and insulin levels, which can lead to cancer growth. To control your weight, aim for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains.

exercise regularly

Physical activity helps lower estrogen levels, reduce inflammation, and boost immune function, all of which can help reduce the risk of flare-ups. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week, along with strength training.

limit alcohol intake

Alcohol increases estrogen levels and can damage DNA, increasing the risk of cancer coming back. If possible, limit your alcohol intake or avoid alcohol altogether.

eat a plant-based diet

A diet rich in fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients supports immune health and helps reduce inflammation. Include a variety of colorful fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower also contain compounds that may reduce cancer risk.

quit smoking

Smoking increases the risk of relapse and other health complications. Quitting smoking can be difficult, but there are some supports that can help.

manage stress

Chronic stress can weaken your immune system and increase cortisol levels, which can impact your recovery and health. Practicing mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and other relaxation techniques can improve your emotional health and resilience.

sleep well

Quality sleep helps your immune system function, regulates hormone levels, and helps repair cells. Establish a consistent sleep routine by aiming for 7 to 8 hours of continuous sleep each night.

Follow the treatment plan

To reduce the risk of recurrence, it is important to adhere to prescribed medications and have follow-up visits and regular tests. Medications such as hormone therapy are effective in preventing cancer from coming back.
