JABALPUR: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said 70 years after independence, India has left behind the former colonial rulers who had “plundered” the country for over two centuries.
Addressing the second Regional Industries Conference held here, he urged industrialists to invest in Madhya Pradesh while ensuring adequate supply of water and power.
“We left behind those who plundered us for 250 years in 70-75 years and have regained our lost glory. We are back on track. India is now the fifth largest economy in the world,” he said, an apparent reference to India replacing Britain as fifth in the pecking order of global economic powers, after the United States, China, Germany and Japan.
Madhya Pradesh is “eager to move forward under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said, adding that the state has immense industrial potential.
While the Defence Production Unit in Jabalpur is already manufacturing howitzers, tanks for the Indian Army will also be manufactured here and a MoU has been signed in this regard, the Chief Minister informed.
“Times are changing rapidly. Mahakoshal region has seen 16 industrial zones come up and 517 micro, small and medium enterprises,” Yadav said.
Yadav said Madhya Pradesh has 275 pharmaceutical companies whose products are exported to 160 countries.
“This is not a small thing. The world’s biggest pharmaceutical companies operate here,” he said.
Yadav said the state has 70 branded food manufacturers and also has a thriving food processing industry.
He said that diamonds are mined in Madhya Pradesh (Panna district) but polishing is done outside the state and hence the government will take steps to set up diamond polishing industry in the state.
A state-of-the-art skill centre for promotion of textile and readymade garment industry will be set up in Jabalpur, the Chief Minister said.
