In a genre-crossing controversy that was never on her 2024 bingo card, Britney Spears issued a scathing rebuttal to the Osbourne family after rock singer Ozzy Osbourne criticized a dance video of her on social media.
The “Toxic” singer took to Instagram on July 17 to voice his disdain for the famous rock family, calling them “the most boring family known to mankind” and telling them to “just go away.”
The controversy began during a recent episode of “The Osbournes” podcast, with Black Sabbath turning their attention to Spears after discussing TikTok dances.
“I’m sick and tired of seeing poor Britney Spears on YouTube,” he said. “Every single day. It’s sad, so, so sad.” His daughter Kelly echoed his sentiments, saying she “feels sorry” for Spears, while family matriarch Sharon Osbourne added, “Poor her.”
Spears, who has faced intense public scrutiny since her 13-year conservatorship ended in 2021, defended herself in a lengthy Instagram post.
She also defended actress Kate Beckinsale, who has faced similar criticism for her social media content.
“I love Kate Beckinsale, especially being from London!,” Spears wrote. “I’ve found it incredibly cruel of people to be saying that her Instagram needs more age appropriate content…Her response is absolutely amazing.”
Spears continued about her situation, “I know some people have commented that it’s sad that I’m so old and I still dance on Instagram every day, but I’m no worse than that! First of all, I hardly ever dance… and second of all, I’m not poor at all! My left toe has more ligaments embedded in it than any adult man or woman on the planet!”
The “Baby One More Time” hitmaker is known for frequently posting videos of herself dancing in revealing outfits on Instagram, which has sparked mixed reactions from fans and critics, with some expressing concern and others praising her newfound freedom of expression.
In her post, Spears also spoke about the importance of supporting one another: “I know what it’s like to be criticized, but I think it’s important to support one another and invite one another into a place that helps our souls grow!”
Her post ended with a scathing message to the Osbournes: “I’m going to do a photoshoot with Kate and tell the Osbournes, the most boring family in the history of mankind, to get the hell out!”
