Alex Cooper is parting ways with Spotify.
The world’s most popular female podcaster has inked a new multi-year deal to bring her show, “Call Her Daddy,” and her cult-fan favorite, “Daddy Gang,” to SiriusXM starting in 2025.
The move marks a major talent poaching by the SiriusXM podcast network, as Cooper was the music streaming service’s second-highest ranking original artist behind Joe Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Although the figures were not made public, Cooper signed a record-breaking three-year, $60 million deal with Spotify in 2021. At the time, it was the second-largest deal in the podcast industry behind Rogan’s own megadeal with Spotify. Cooper was reportedly seeking at least $100 million in guarantees and revenue sharing in his new contract. The move comes after SiriusXM poached another popular show, “SmartLess,” from Amazon in January.
“I am so excited to be working with SiriusXM,” Cooper, 29, said in a statement. “Daddy Gang will always be my top priority, and together with SiriusXM, we will continue to evolve and find new ways to give our listeners the best experience possible. Daddy Gang wants more, so we’re preparing to give them more… I can’t wait for this new chapter to begin.”
The new deal gives SiriusXM exclusive advertising and distribution rights to host and executive producer Cooper’s flagship podcast, as well as her Unwell branded lineup of shows, which include Hot Mess with Alix Earle, Pretty Lonesome with Madeline Argy, Boyfriend Material with Harry Jowsey and In Your Dreams with Owen Teale.
“Alex’s fearless, outspoken approach to covering any topic has generated a passionate and dedicated fanbase that is unmatched in the podcasting world, which aligns perfectly with the type of content our SiriusXM subscribers love and expect from us,” said Scott Greenstein, president and chief content officer, SiriusXM. “SiriusXM is the perfect home for Alex to continue her incredible growth trajectory. We have the unique ability to introduce her and her growing roster of outstanding talent to new listeners, while also best serving her core fans with new content. Alex is the voice of a new generation, and I can’t wait to see what we do together in the future.”
Last year, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek suggested the company was “very committed to investing in future (podcast) content deals,” raising some doubts about whether the music-streaming service would continue to sign blockbuster deals with top content creators. Nevertheless, Spotify renewed its deal with Rogan in February, reportedly worth $250 million.
Launched in 2018, Call Her Daddy was originally a raunchy, sex-positive talk show with two young, single hosts (Cooper and co-host Sophia Franklin). The show was quickly acquired by Barstool Sports and became a huge success almost overnight. Cooper parted ways with Franklin in 2020 and moved the podcast to Spotify in 2021. The podcast has since evolved into a “modern take on feminism,” covering a variety of topics and featuring frequent A-list celebrity guests (including Jane Fonda, Post Malone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hailey Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and John Mayer). Rolling Stone has called Cooper “the Barbara Walters of Gen Z.”
Most recently, Cooper, along with her husband and business partner Matt Kaplan of Ace Entertainment, founded media company Trending and its subsidiary Anwell Audio Network LLC. The media venture will elevate the voices and stories of Gen Z.
