The fighting game community got a big surprise recently when Capcom announced Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. Fans wondered if a new game might be coming in the future, and it looks like that possibility is now becoming a reality.
In an “exclusive” interview with Dexart, the collection’s producer, Shuhei Matsumoto, said that “there may be a chance for a new Marvel vs. Capcom game,” and he agrees about a “new Capcom-based SNK game” if fans are willing to show their support.
“The development team at Capcom has big dreams. If it comes to fruition, it will take some time and effort to create and release such a game, but what we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to new audiences – people who may not have had a chance to play them because they weren’t released on modern platforms.”
“… What we can do now is at least show that these franchises exist. We love these games, we hope you do too, and maybe in the future, as people become more familiar with these franchises, there will be an opportunity to make bigger games.”
Again, it all depends on how much support fans of the series give to the upcoming Fighting Collection. We were also asked if there are any future plans for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 now that MvC is back (like rollback netcode), but according to the producer, it’s just a matter of “timing” and taking it “one step at a time.”
Matsumoto also said that Marvel has expressed interest in a tournament like EVO, “because we know that people really love this series and really want these games to be playable on modern platforms.” These comments from the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection producer come in the wake of SNK’s announcement of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos for Switch, PlayStation, and Steam.
