CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville City Schools is partnering with a career center to help students find their passion and succeed in the workplace.
“This is creating an opportunity for our students, and it’s something that has never happened before in our state,” said Charlottesville Superintendent Royal Ghaley.
He said this unprecedented partnership was already making a difference.
“The students are excited because they are really finding their place in the sun to call their own,” Gurley said.
Charlottesville City Schools has partnered with Virginia Career Works, which helps connect job seekers and employers.
“Having access to this partnership will allow us to leverage these resources and help students start trying out different career paths and really find their niche and find what helps them be happy. We will be able to do that,” Gurley said.
These resources include internships, counseling, and even career exploration, which allows some students to study weaving at Lugo McGuinness Academy Alternative School.
“This really helps students understand that you can take something you already have and repurpose it into something new,” Gurley said. “So we want our students to be able to really discover, learn and plan.”
This partnership is an expansion of the Charlottesville Regional Technical Education Center, which joined the department this summer.
CATEC Principal Dr. Stacey Hertz said:
She said the main goal is to ensure that today’s students are prepared for tomorrow’s workforce.
