China EV insurance registrations for the week ending October 20: Nio 3,900, Tesla 13,200, Xiaomi 5,600, BYD 89,600

Last week, Li Auto had 12,100 insurance registrations, Xpeng 4,500, Zeekr 5,200, Leapmotor 8,000, and Aito 8,700.

Insurance registrations by major electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers in China were mixed last week.

According to data shared today by Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), for the week from October 14 to 20, 3,900 Nio (NYSE: NIO) brand vehicles were insured in China, up from 4,700 the previous week. It decreased by 17.02%.

Li Auto stopped sharing weekly insurance registration numbers earlier this year, after doing so for about a year. In early May, we resumed sharing those numbers in the form of weekly rankings.

The numbers shared by Li Auto are by brand and do not include sales of Nio’s sub-brand Onvo.

Onvo launched its first model, the L60, on September 19th and began deliveries on September 28th.

The company’s EV maker delivered 21,181 vehicles in September, including 20,349 for its main Nio brand and 832 for Onvo.As a group, Nio delivered more than 20,000 vehicles. Achieved for consecutive months.

On October 11, the Nio brand reached the milestone of 600,000 production vehicles delivered.

According to figures shared by the company, Li Auto had 12,100 insurance registrations last week, down 9.70% from 13,400 the previous week.

The number of vehicles delivered in September was 53,709, exceeding the previous figure of 51,000 in July.

This is a 48.94% increase from the same month last year, and an 11.61% increase from August’s 48,122 people.

On October 18, Li Auto announced that it delivered its 1 millionth vehicle 58 months after its first delivery.

Li Auto announced yesterday that it will report unaudited financial results for the third quarter of 2024 before the U.S. market opens on Thursday, October 31st.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had 4,500 insurance registrations last week, an increase of 15.38% from 3,900 the previous week.

The company’s EV maker delivered 21,352 vehicles in September, an increase of 39.46% from the previous year and 52.12% from August.

The company announced on October 1 that Xpeng’s new model Mona M03 has delivered more than 10,000 units in its first full delivery month, but did not provide specific numbers.

On October 14, the first day of the Paris Auto Show, Xpeng announced that it will begin pre-orders for its new flagship electric sedan “P7+” in China, with a starting price of RMB 209,800 ($29,600).

The company announced late on October 14 that orders for the P7+ exceeded 30,000 units in just 1 hour and 48 minutes after pre-sales began.

Xpeng announced on October 18 that it has seen the first production P7+ vehicle roll off the assembly line at its Guangzhou manufacturing facility.

In a research note on October 16, Deutsche Bank analyst Wang Bin’s team predicted that the average monthly sales of Xpeng P7+ would be 6,000 units.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 13,200 insurance registrations in China last week, an increase of 55.29% from 8,500 the previous week.

Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, and serves as both a delivery site for local customers and an export hub.

The US EV maker sold 72,200 units in China in September, the highest for the year, surpassing August’s 63,456 units, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Tesla sold 88,321 Chinese-made cars in September, including 16,121 that were exported.

Tesla said last month that it planned to launch FSD (Full Self-Driving) in China in the first quarter of 2025, but that could be delayed again, according to an October 18 report in China Daily.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) had 89,600 insurance registrations last week, down 15.63% from the previous week’s record high of 106,200.

The company sold 419,426 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in September, setting a new record for the fourth consecutive month.

This is an increase of 45.91 percent from 287,454 a year ago and a 12.42 percent increase from 373,083 in August.

According to data released by the CPCA on October 14, BYD’s retail sales of 386,749 NEVs in China in September continued to be No. 1 in the domestic passenger car NEV market with a share of 34.4%.

The company displayed several models at the Paris Auto Show on October 14th and launched the Sealion 07 EV, rebranded as Sealion 7, in Europe.

On October 18, BYD launched the Sealion 06 GT hatchback in China, a new model that caters to the tastes of young people.

Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) had 5,600 insurance registrations last week, an increase of 21.74% from 4,600 the previous week, marking a record high for the second consecutive week.

Xiaomi EV, the mobile phone maker’s EV division, announced on October 1 that it shipped more than 10,000 units of Xiaomi’s first EV model “SU7” in September.

As in the past three months, Xiaomi EV did not announce specific figures for monthly shipments of SU7.

Zikar (NYSE: ZK) had 5,200 insurance registrations last week, down 5.45% from 5,500 the previous week.

The company’s EV maker delivered a record 21,333 units in September, surpassing June’s 20,106 units. Compared to the same period last year, it increased by 76.99%, and from August it increased by 18.42%.

Zeekr launched its second model for the mainstream EV market, the Zeekr 7X electric SUV, on September 20th, with deliveries beginning on September 21st.

G-CAR announced on October 15 that the number of 7X deliveries exceeded 10,000 units within 25 days of its release.

The company announced on October 18 that cumulative deliveries have exceeded 350,000 units.

Zeekr launched its new model Zeekr Mix on October 23rd, and the first production units of the electric MPV (multipurpose vehicle) rolled off the assembly line yesterday.

Leap Motor (HKG: 9863) had 8,000 insurance registrations last week, down 8.05% from 8,700 the previous week.

In September, 33,767 vehicles were delivered, marking the second consecutive month in which the number exceeded 30,000 vehicles and the fourth consecutive month in a row that the number exceeded 30,000 vehicles.

This is an increase of 113.72% from 15,800 a year ago and an increase of 11.42% from 30,305 in August.

Leap Motor will debut the B10 at the Paris Motor Show on October 14th, with the compact SUV set to go on sale next year as the first global model of the company’s new B platform.

The company announced on October 17 that the 500,000th mass-produced vehicle rolled off the line.

Aito, a brand jointly launched by Huawei and Ceres Group, had 8,700 insurance registrations last week, an increase of 22.54% from 7,100 the previous week.
