Christie Brinkley reveals the simple secret to feeling sexy and confident, and the incredibly simple self-care routine she’s been sticking to for decades.
The legendary model, 70, revealed her secrets in a glamorous cover interview for the July issue of Hamptons magazine’s Social Life, where she reminisced about her days as a Sports Illustrated star in a white swimsuit.
“I decided to take off my glasses and encourage others to do the same,” she said.
“I try to take my glasses off even when I’m putting on a little make-up or scrolling through Instagram, so I don’t have to overthink and criticise every little thing. Who has time for that?”
The former model, who first appeared in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue in 1975 and subsequently appeared on the cover in 1979, 1980 and 1981, also explained that taking the time to paint her toenails red is an important part of her self-care routine.
“I like to take the time to do my own nails,” she says. “My toes are always red. The shade of red may vary, but the color remains the same.”
“I usually don’t feel like washing my hands in the garden because I end up getting them dirty, so I only wash my toes.”
Gardening is another important tool Brinkley uses to stay healthy.
“That’s definitely my take on self-care,” she says. “Putting on an oversized hat and getting my hands dirty. Getting in touch with nature makes me feel like I’m more like myself.”
As for guilty pleasures that can help lift your mood when needed, the author added: “Hot chocolate. I love making hot chocolate for the whole family.”
Brinkley has been open with fans in recent months about the importance of taking care of herself since revealing her skin cancer diagnosis in March.
She explained on Instagram: Doctors discovered that she had basal cell carcinoma, one of the most common types of skin cancer. cancerlocated on the upper left side of her face.
Brinkley added that doctors quickly removed the cancer, saying, “They treated it and luckily my hair grows back that way and the scar is barely noticeable.”
According to the American Cancer Society, basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells in the outer layer of the skin.
Basal cell carcinoma typically occurs in areas of the skin that are frequently exposed to the sun, especially the face. It tends to grow slowly and rarely spreads to other parts of the body.
The supermodel also advised viewers to wear sunscreen and a hat when out in the sun this summer.
A few months later, she recalled, she was visiting a dermatologist with one of her daughters when the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma was discovered by chance.
When she arrived at the hospital, she asked to see her daughter’s doctor, who discovered the cancer.
“I hadn’t even scheduled a checkup, but I was going to the dermatologist with my daughter,” she told the Today Show.
“I was in the room and he had a little magnifying glass and was looking at some of the things that she was concerned about.”
She continued, “I was like, ‘I have this little spot on the side of my head here… should I say something? This isn’t my appointment.'” And then at the last minute I said, “Before I put that away, can I just take a look at this?”
“And the doctor said, ‘We have to do a biopsy right away. This is serious.’ And the biopsy showed cancer.”
The mother of three has daughter Saylor, 26, and son Jack, 29, with ex-husband Peter Cook.
