CM Gandapur on Thursday hosted a high-level meeting at CM House to discuss the current political situation in the province following the announcement of a three-day Pashtun Qaumi Jirga by the banned Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). – The purpose was to discuss the security situation and reach agreement on an action plan. .
The important meeting was attended by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister Amir Muqam, members of the provincial assembly, and leaders and representatives of various political parties.
According to a declaration issued after the meeting, CM Gandapur, at the request of the participants, will hold talks with the opposition in the hope of amicably resolving the political and security crisis in KP. Therefore, he announced the formation of a new Jirga led by himself.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Grand Jirga participants for giving him the mandate to hold the dialogue. He added that the consultation process for formulating the next strategy and peacefully resolving the KP issue will be completed as soon as possible.
Sources familiar with the development told Geo News that participants in the high-level meeting also finalized the terms of reference (ToR) for a new jirga headed by CM Gandapur, but members of the negotiating body are yet to confirm. It hadn’t been decided.
They added that this happened after the prime minister asked Grand Jirga participants for permission to meet with banned organizations.
“I am ready to sit on the floor and negotiate with the second party,” Gandapur said at the Grand Jirga, sources said.
He also referred to clashes between KP police and Manzoor Pashteen-led PTM workers on the border of Khyber district and provincial capital when the banned political party announced to hold a jirga from October 11. did.

KP CM’s Information Adviser Mohammad Ali Saif said in a statement that leaders of all political parties were in agreement to establish peace in the state.
He expressed confidence in the leadership of CM Gandapur, adding that he has been given full authority to find a peaceful solution to the current issues.

On October 6, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition government issued a notification banning the PTM under Section 11B of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, citing the organization’s activities as a threat to peace and security.
The state government conveyed its concerns to the Center over the move and complained that the ban on PTM was creating tension in the state.
