Manitoba, Canada – Three years after meeting through a love of the Northern Lights, a Canadian couple has vowed to spend eternity together under the dancing lights that first brought them together.
During a severe (G4) geomagnetic storm Thursday night, professional aurora chaser Justin Anderson decided it was the perfect time to ask Jen Sutherland to spend eternity with him under the stars. I realized.
NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a geomagnetic storm warning Thursday after a severe geomagnetic storm was observed. Bright aurora lights were seen across Canada, the northern United States, and even the Southeast.
“The aurora scale goes from 0 to 9,” Anderson told FOX Weather. “I wanted to propose when she was at a 9, because she deserves nothing but the best. When I woke up in the morning and saw that it was an 8, I knew that was the night. Ta.”

Anderson captured the once-in-a-lifetime moment and Sutherland’s reaction on video. The proposal was completed with a custom ring featuring three gemstones symbolizing the aurora borealis.
“I was completely surprised. He had planned it perfectly. I couldn’t be happier,” Ms Sutherland said.
Anderson has seen thousands of aurora borealis, but this one was the most special, he said.
