Environment Minister Aden Duare said Vice President Ligati Gachagua’s impeachment was due to the former Matira lawmaker’s tendency to make political enemies rather than allies.
Lecture on Citizen TV JK live On Wednesday’s show, Duerr, an experienced politician, recounted several instances in his career where he witnessed impeachment attempts against various ministers and members of Congress. These include a 2009 plot to remove President William Ruto, who was then agriculture minister.
“The current president had filed an impeachment motion when he was Minister of Agriculture, but the impeachment turned into a vote of confidence. He spoke for two hours and 115 MPs supported him,” Duale said as host of the show. told Jeff Koinange.
“I was one of them (115 MPs) and 26 voted for impeachment, 18 of whom were ministers. People like Martha Karua wanted Ruto out. Did he survive? Because this man invested in his friends from the beginning of his career.
Duare said Gachagua’s tendency to alienate potential allies in the political arena ultimately led to his impeachment, making him the first sitting vice president in Kenya’s history to be removed from office.
Duare emphasized this point, citing Gachagua’s public disputes with key politicians, including digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and the president’s personal aide Farouk Kibet.
“If you ask me, it’s good to invest in your friends. Former Democrats (Gachagua) should invest more in fighting people in their own backyard, including little people like Dennis Itumbi and Farouk Kibet. I think I did. When you grow up, don’t do that. Don’t come to ground zero…stay awake,” Duale said.
Duerr also emphasized the importance of fostering political friendships and highlighted how Gachagua’s approach worked against him during the impeachment vote.
“He (Gachagua) has invested more in making enemies than friends. Never in the history of Kenya have 282 MPs voted in favor of a motion. I have no intention of toying with members. Unless there is a cabinet meeting, I will go to the House and answer questions. To survive, be like William Ruto,” Duale concluded.
