It’s not at all inconceivable that Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant could find a way to join forces again after teaming up to win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At least, that’s according to ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins.
The former NBA center appeared on “First Take” on Monday to talk about the iconic trio’s performance in Paris and said he wouldn’t be surprised if the duo of Curry, James and Durant found a way to join forces again with their Team USA teammates in the near future.
“What I witnessed watching the Olympic team this summer was the relationships the players were building,” Perkins said, “and while they were in Paris, they were eating together and talking together.”
“And I’ll say this: Next NBA season is going to be interesting, because if the Los Angeles Lakers don’t go as planned, if the Golden State Warriors don’t go as planned, if the Phoenix Suns don’t go as planned, they’re all in the same conference.”
“I’m telling myself, maybe we’ll see something after this season is over, maybe there’ll be some moving parts. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Stephen Curry and KD reunion or LeBron James and Stephen actually reunite or Kevin Durant go to Minnesota with Anthony Edwards because they had that trademark handshake, so that’s how you get that kind of relationship. At the end of the day, I want to see this season here and see how things go, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see LeBron James and Stephen Curry on the court together before LeBron’s career is over.”
Curry and Durant have already played together in the NBA, with the Warriors winning two championships in 2017 and 2018 and nearly winning a third in 2019. But they have not teamed up with James, who the Warriors are looking to acquire at the 2023 trade deadline and whom Curry has acknowledged he has previously considered playing with.
Perkins isn’t the only one who would love to see Curry, James and Durant team up one day, with other former NBA players such as Kevin Garnett and Nick Young discussing the possibility earlier this offseason.
But for now, that reality remains a pipe dream.
