Sonia Kruger and Chris Brown have received some pretty mixed reactions from viewers throughout this year’s season of Dancing with the Stars, with some social media users describing them as a “couple made in heaven” while others claim the Gold Logie winners are “too vulgar for TV”.
A source told Yahoo Lifestyle last month that Channel Seven had received “several complaints” about Sonia’s X-rated jokes, citing her “lewd insults” and “nasty” comments, forcing editors to re-edit pre-recorded shows to make them more suitable for families.

Will Sonia and Chris return to ‘Dancing with the Stars 2025’?
Sonia’s sassy sense of humour may have alienated some fans this season, but Yahoo Lifestyle has revealed that she and Chris aren’t leaving: production sources say the pair are set to return next year as part of the former Channel 10 presenter’s lucrative three-year deal with the network.
“Having Sonia and Chris working together on Dancing with the Stars is a really big investment for the network. Channel Seven was always aware that this was their first step and has enjoyed watching them get to know each other in front of the camera,” the source said.
“By next year viewers will have forgotten what the show used to be. It always takes viewers time to adjust to long-running shows like this. Perhaps they’ll tone down the innuendo a bit and find a different rhythm, but that’s a discussion for Seven executives to have, not the presenter.”
Sonia’s former boss speaks out
While Sonia has yet to respond to viewer complaints about her vulgar sense of humor on the reality show, her former boss and close friend has now come forward to defend the TV star. A source told Yahoo Lifestyle that Sonia doesn’t really care about the backlash and “these comments aren’t going to get in the way of having a good champagne at the end of the day.”
“One minute you’re a Gold Logie award winner, the next you’re several notches down – very Australian!,” they say. “It says a lot about our industry and our tall poppy syndrome, don’t you think?
“Yes, the format of the show may be a bit vulgar, but that’s the brand image. Dance is a sexy industry and Sonia grew up in it. The humour is in her DNA.”
He also points out that as a TV presenter, Sonia is simply hired to do a job and “no one follows instructions as well as she does”.
“Channel Seven must have had 12 board meetings about what this season would be like, long before Sonia picked up the microphone,” they added.

“I don’t think DWTS takes itself too seriously and parents are as sensitive as some viewers claim. I hope this doesn’t affect her chances of winning back-to-back Gold Logies because that wouldn’t be fair.”
