Prosecutor General Renson Ingonga has approved criminal charges against two Nairobi MPs and an aide to Vice President Ligachi Gachagua over the violent protests that gripped the country in June.
In a letter to Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin, Ingonga said he was satisfied there was sufficient evidence to charge the pro-Gachagua MP and his aides with felony conspiracy. said.
Mr Amin sent a letter to the Democratic Party on September 24, complaining about the violence, Meja Donku (Embakasi Central MP), James Gakuya (Embakasi North MP), Ngunjiri Wambugu (former Nyeri Town MP), He said he had investigated George Teuri and Pius Munene (also known as Meja Donk). in Nairobi on June 25th.

“After careful consideration, we have directed that there is sufficient evidence to charge the suspect with felony conspiracy, contrary to Article 393 of the Supreme Code,” the Democratic Party said in a statement.
Amin had accused politicians and aides of planning, mobilizing and financing the violent protests in Nairobi.
During the June 25 protests, young people attacked and vandalized the Capitol and Chief Justice Martha Coombe’s office in the Supreme Court building.
The protests were sparked by the unpopular Finance Bill 2024, which calls for higher costs of living and higher taxes.
Although MPs passed the bill, President William Ruto refused to give his assent to the controversial bill and sent it back to Parliament for consideration.
Many protesters were killed and many others injured as police engaged in scuffles with young people.
In addition to the felony conspiracy, the Democratic Party has also directed the suspects to open a separate file on money laundering.
The DCI chief said Mr Gakuya and Mr Mwangi were called to DCI headquarters at Majingira House on July 31, where their statements were recorded.
Mr Amin further said that their mobile phones have been subject to forensic examination as efforts are being made to obtain data from the Financial Reporting Center (FRC), Safaricom and banks.
Parliamentarians are said to have met at a hotel in Nairobi ahead of the protest.
