Fashion emergency!
Designer Buck Mai, whose looks have been worn by the likes of Kate Beckinsale, Venus Williams, Heidi Klum and ballerina Misty Copeland, arrived Monday to attend tonight’s A-list CFDA Fashion Awards ceremony. was discharged from the hospital.
Apparently he plans to escort Lucy Liu, the actress from Charlie’s Angels, as his date.
Mai was hospitalized Sunday night after returning from South Korea, where he had been working on the look as part of an innovation grant awarded to him by the CFDA and Genesis House AAPI Design.
According to sources, he was injured in a crowded bar while overseas and cut his leg below the knee.
“Bach took the night off to go sightseeing and went to a crowded bar,” the source said. “It was completely packed, but he walked into something. He was blind and didn’t even know what it was. He walked around for the next few days, returned to New York, and was infected. I found out that you are.”
Mai was kept in hospital overnight on Sunday and was given intravenous antibiotics.
The awards recognize the best fashion of the year and are held at the Natural History Museum. Erykah Badu will receive the Fashion Icon Award, along with Michael Kors, photographer Annie Leibovitz and Vogue’s Hamish Bowles.
We hear that Mai and Liu will be seated at Asian American philanthropist Yao King’s first AAPI Emerging Designers Table, along with fellow grant recipients Dauphinette designers Olivia Chen and Grace Lin.
The afterparty will be held at the legendary Boathouse in Central Park.
