A nonprofit organization is in the news after doctors trained in the medical field revealed things they would never do on TikTok.
Medical experts associated with the Academy of Medicine of Northern Ohio (AMCNO) gave their best advice in a video released Wednesday.
In this video, both a medical student and a gastroenterologist admit they will never eat potato salad again.
Additionally, multiple medical experts have confirmed that they would never ride a bike, snowboard, or skateboard without a helmet.
“I used to own an electric skateboard and ride it around campus, but I never wore a helmet when I loaded it,” one medical student explained.
A medical expert at the Academy of Medicine of Northern Ohio (AMCNO) says he would never do it now that he’s in the medical field.
“So from now on I will always wear a helmet,” he added.
Another medical student revealed that he doesn’t usually ride motorcycles.
Although one interviewee revealed that he has no intention of staying up late studying or smoking, several experts expressed caution about making better dietary choices.
Another gastroenterologist featured in the video admitted he would never eat food with artificial sweeteners, but insisted the medical student would not “neglect the amount of fiber” in the diet.
Other don’ts mentioned in the video included eating expired food, putting warm lake water up your nose, and letting your kids play soccer.
The video has been viewed more than 150,000 times and is currently the nonprofit’s second most-watched video on TikTok.
Potato salad is frequently featured in medical school tests for food poisoning because it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria if left unattended.
Potato salad is a common dish on the table, but it can also cause serious health problems.
According to one medical expert, potato salad is often asked on medical school exams on food poisoning.
“If left in the critical temperature range of 40 degrees to 140 degrees for more than two hours, large amounts of bacteria can grow,” the report said.
Wearing a helmet while biking or skateboarding can also save your life in the event of a traffic accident.
“Each year, approximately 2% of motor vehicle crash fatalities involve bicyclists,” the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety writes.
“In the majority of fatal bicycle accidents, the most serious injury is to the head, highlighting the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet.”
Artificial sweeteners may taste good, but they can also increase your risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, or type 2 diabetes.
Conversely, a diet high in fiber can help you stay healthy by supporting digestive health and lowering cholesterol.
As for medical experts’ distaste for warm lake water, while it may be fun to swim in, it can be dangerous and even deadly if contaminated with parasites and bacteria.
Other things the video participants claimed they would never do include not riding a bike without a helmet and not consuming artificial sweeteners.
Several commenters who watched the AMCNO video were surprised by the potato salad comment.
But they suggested that potato salad’s potential risks could be solved by making it smaller and keeping it cold.
At least two other TikTokers said they could never give up artificial sweeteners, with one claiming she couldn’t flick them off her “cold dead fingers.”
Others brought up the scenario of warmer lake water and how it is an “annual event” during the summer.
“That warm lake water shook me to my core. I never thought about how toxic that water source was,” the TikToker wrote.
