Nigerians have begun voicing their displeasure over President Bola Tinubu’s eldest son, Mr Seyi, attending the inauguration of the interim Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere Ekun.
Kekere Ekun was sworn in and signed the Record of Oath as the 23rd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court at 11:40am on Friday at the State House, Abuja, pending confirmation by the Senate.
She took office on June 27, 2022, replacing Olukayode Ariwula who retired on Thursday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.
However, photos of the president’s son attending the event went viral on Monday, with netizens questioning what he was doing in a place that was supposed to only be attended by cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
A user tweeting on #BetaCountri said: “Let me ask Nigerians, what exactly is Seyi Tinubu’s job in this government that allows him to be in the front row at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Kekere Ekun, the Interim Chief Justice of Nigeria?”
On X.com, anonymous tweeter #Ayemojubar posted: “What is Seyi Tinubu doing at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Kekere Ekun, the Interim Chief Justice of Nigeria?”
“He is learning the process… Once he becomes a daddy… he will… enter into the tradition of the greatest political family… Una ain’t seen nothing,” wrote IbukunOluwa, who tweeted under the handle #Hybikay07.
Another user who goes by the name Maysbabs opined, “The decision makers have to be where the decisions are being made. At this point, the truth of what Seyi is saying outweighs the opinions of others… I’m rooting for his father.”
“He’s doing an internship to become a future president. If my dad was president I would do the same,” wrote a user with the handle “#ToppyAFC.”
Another X user, who goes by the name #Cheryl deBlaq, commented, “I’m learning the ropes so when I take over from my dad I’ll know how to do it!”
However, while some believed his attendance at the event was wrong, others maintained that Seyi Tinubu’s presence there was justified.
“If your father was president you would definitely be sitting in this spot or in front of me. Hypocrites everywhere,” wrote a Facebook user calling himself “The Philosopher.”
“Nigerians and their mindset. If you are going to be successful in your chosen profession, learn how it is done. This is a class a person of his level should take to understand how it is done. Nothing new,” said an Instagram user with the handle #Adelion.
Igonor Mathias of X.com commented, “My best advice to my father is that if he becomes the president of Nigeria, he should make me or one of my brothers his personal secretary. So, my father, it is no sin that Seyi Tinubu should always be by our side. I don’t like Tinubu becoming my president, but Seyi Tinubu must protect my father in many ways.”
