Porsche will re-release the 911 GT3. This outstanding track-ready road sports car boasts an enhanced weight-saving strategy, a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre boxer engine with 375 kW (510 PS) and 450 Nm, and highly customer-focused new options. It will debut in 2018. The Weissach package, first available on the 911 GT3, offers even more custom configuration options for use on the track. In addition, the sports car is equipped with more standard equipment and other options that further enhance its precision and sportiness.
911 GT3 with modern style
The new 911 GT3 model features a sharp front and rear design and adapted aerodynamics. On both versions, a recontoured front diffuser, a sophisticatedly shaped spoiler lip and revised fins on the underbody increase downforce and optimize airflow. Redesigned Matrix LED headlights are available on the 911 GT3 with an optional white accent ring and combine all the light functions of a 911, eliminating the need for additional lights on the front apron. This increases the intake area and allows for a well-defined structural appearance. At the rear, the diffuser, air inlets and rear lid have been redesigned. The rear wing of the 911 GT3 features new angled side plates.
Porsche uses specially developed aerodynamic teardrop-shaped trailing arms on the double-wishbone front axle. Increases wheel arch downforce at high speeds and improves brake cooling. Suspension engineers have reduced pitching (anti-dive) so that the downforce balance between the front and rear axles is maintained even when braking from high speeds. To facilitate this in the new 911 GT3, the front ball joint of the lower trailing arm is located lower on the front axle. The 911 GT3 adopts these improvements from the current 911 GT3 RS. The 911 GT3 comes standard with 255/35 ZR 20 (front) and 315/30 ZR 21 (rear) sports tires with improved wet grip. Optionally, road-approved truck tires are also available.
Touring packages available from launch and further customizable
With the facelift, Porsche has further defined the variants of the 911 GT3. For the first time, the popular touring package will be available immediately at launch. The name “Touring Package” dates back to the equipment variant of the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It has been part of the GT3 program since 2017. The new 911 GT3 is even more distinctive, as reflected in the “911 GT3 Touring” logo on the rear lid grille. The 911 GT3 with Touring Package dispenses with the fixed wing, thereby maintaining the timeless and elegant lines of the 911. An extendable rear spoiler with tear-off edges, the famous Gurney flap and an underbody-adapted fin design provide aerodynamic balance. The interior features high-quality leather, creating a classic and sporty atmosphere.
For the first time, a rear seat system is available as an option for the 911 GT3 with Touring Package. This allows the everyday sports car to be even more individually adapted to the customer’s wishes and to maximize driving pleasure on winding country roads. “Especially on winding country roads, you can clearly feel that the steering is even better adjusted than in the previous model,” says Porsche Brand Ambassador Walter Röhrl. “The car reacts more calmly from the center position without losing its direct feel, which gives the car even more confidence. The shorter gear ratios also significantly improve driving pleasure on country roads. did.”
Overall lightweight design
The low overall weight contributes to the 911 GT3’s agile and direct handling. The new 911 GT3 is completely lightweight. Adopting new lightweight silver-colored aluminum wheels, the unsprung weight is more than 1.5kg lighter than the previous model. Optionally, magnesium wheels are available with the Weissach package or Leichtbau (lightweight) package. They save 9 kilograms. A new 40 Ah lithium-ion lightweight battery contributes to body mass index during exercise by further reducing weight by approximately 4 kilograms. The new 911 GT3 weighs just 1,420 kg in its lightest configuration.
8% shorter gear ratio
The 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine of the new 911 GT3 has been designed to meet today’s significantly stricter emissions standards and is equipped with two particulate filters and four catalytic converters. With this extremely powerful emissions control system, Porsche also offers an attractive soundscape. The engine power of the six-cylinder boxer engine was achieved through a series of optimization measures. The cylinder head has been revised, and the 911 GT3 RS’s sharper camshaft further improves its dynamic performance at high rpm.
Additionally, a separate throttle valve with optimized flow and an optimized oil cooler are used. The Boxer continues to deliver 375 kW (510 PS). This means that the improved high-speed naturally aspirated engine only needs to displace 3.8 kilograms per kilowatt (2.8 kg/PS) in the lightest vehicle configuration. In addition, the final drive ratio of the 7-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK) and 6-speed GT manual transmission is 8% shorter than the previous model. Both gearbox options are available on both the 911 GT3 and the 911 GT3 with Touring Package. With PDK, the new 911 GT3 accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 311 km/h (manual gearbox: 3.9 seconds, 313 km/h).
Brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister said: “On the track, the new 911 GT3 rides more stably thanks to the optimized damper tuning and also handles better when going over bumps and curbs. “It gives us even more control.” “The anti-dive system significantly reduces pitching movements when braking. As a result, the balance of the car remains significantly stable under all conditions.”
Innovative lightweight sports bucket seat
The new 911 GT3 has an optional new lightweight sports bucket seat with a foldable backrest and a CFRP seat shell. The seat is equipped with an integrated thoracic airbag, electric height adjustment and manual longitudinal adjustment. Three-stage seat heating is also available as an option. Part of the headrest pad is removable. This improves ergonomics for most drivers who wear helmets during track use. The folding function of the backrest, activated via a loop, allows access to the optional rear seat system offered for the first time in the 911 GT3 with Touring package. Alternatively, you can also order the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus with 18-way electrical adjustment.
The black two-seater standard cockpit of the new 911 GT3 is based on the design of the current 911 model. However, unlike the Carrera models, the 911 GT3 has a rotary ignition switch rather than a button start. An optionally available rollover bar indicates the proximity to motorsport. The central digital instrument panel supports the driver with a clearly structured display and control concept. Thanks to the contrasting color scheme, the rev counter and stopwatch can be read instantly. “Track Screen” display mode reduces the digital displays on the left and right sides of the tachometer to key data about tires, oil, water and fuel, and a shift flash indicates optimal shift times to the driver. If desired, the tachometer display can be rotated so that the 9,000 rpm cutoff speed is at the 12 o’clock mark.
Individual package for 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring
Porsche offers various equipment packages for the new 911 GT3. With the Weissach package now available for the first time, the 911 GT3 is now even more individually configurable for track use. The anti-roll bar, coupling rod and rear axle shear panels are made of CFRP, as are the roof, rear wing side plates, exterior mirror top shells, mirror triangles and air blades in the front area. Additional leather and Race-Tex upholstery enhance the interior appearance. Accordingly, for the first time, the upper side of the 911 GT3’s dashboard is covered with anti-glare Racetex. CFRP door handles and storage nets optimize the door internal panels for a lightweight design. A CFRP roll cage and lightweight forged magnesium wheels are available as options.
For the 911 GT3 with the Touring Package, Porsche offers the Leichtbau Package. The roof, stabilizer, coupling rod, and rear axle shear panel are made of CFRP and are painted in the exterior color. Lightweight magnesium forged wheels and lightweight door panels are also part of the package. In combination with the standard six-speed GT sports gearbox, the shortened gear lever of the 911 S/T is used. In front of the gear lever, a nameplate reading “Leichtbau” indicates the package.
For 911 GT3s with rear wing, the Clubsport package for track driving is available at no additional charge. The rear includes a bolted-on steel roll cage, a six-point harness for the driver, and a hand-held fire extinguisher. The optional lightweight sports bucket seats are a prerequisite for this.
“The new 911 GT3 is even more exhilarating and individual. We dug deep into the details and included many of the features our customers wanted. ,” says Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Cars.
The dedicated chronograph is a “sports car on your wrist”
