Drew McIntyre is extremely proud of what he accomplished in this match.
The Scottish warrior had plenty of standout moments during his WWE run, including a Royal Rumble victory, three World Championship titles and headlining two UK shows, but when it came to deciding which match was the best, McIntyre was the clear favorite.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre called the match between himself, Sheamus and Gunther at WrestleMania 39 the best match of his career, adding that having a brief one-on-one match with Sheamus on the show was special.
“From start to finish, I’d say it was the best match at WrestleMania. Probably the best match of my career. How can you top a match at WrestleMania that people say is one of the best matches in Mania history, and probably the best triple threat of all time, and the history between me and Sheamus? We’ve been through it all together over the last 20 years, in and out of the ring, and then you add Gunther to the mix, and he’s a lot like us, and just incredibly physically gifted in the ring.”
It was amazing when everyone came together. I remember it wasn’t even 10 minutes into the match. I think it was after Sheamus hit me in the chest and face like 40 times. It was amazing. And the crowd was going crazy and yelling this is amazing. I was like, “Wow, we’re just getting started.” Look, and why am I seeing double at this point? It was cool.
The story of the match was cool, too, because eventually Gunther disappeared for a while, but Sheamus and I had always dreamed of a one-on-one match at WrestleMania. And we went back and forth for 10 minutes, hitting each other with claymores and brogues and bombs. It was like we were in a singles match. We’d forgotten about Gunther, and then he reappears at the right time. Boom, steal, out. So it was cool that Sheamus and I got to have the one-on-one match at WrestleMania that should have happened the year before.”
After a fierce battle between three European wrestlers, Gunter defended the Intercontinental Championship and held it for another year before losing it to Sami Zayn.
Drew McIntyre also announces career low
The former World Champion had many impressive moments during his time with WWE, but he also had many moments he wasn’t so proud of. During an interview, Drew McIntyre named the worst moment of his WWE career.
