The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid on the property of former YSR Congress MP and Telugu film producer MVV Satyanarayana here on Saturday.
The raid was carried out at the premises of YSRCP leaders as part of the investigation into money laundering allegations.
ED officials conducted searches at five locations, including the residences and offices of Satyanarayana, the auditor and another accused.
Federal authorities are investigating money laundering charges against former members of Congress in connection with the land grab.
Mr. Satyanarayana was elected to Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam on YSR Congress Party ticket in 2019. In the recent elections, the party had fielded him from Visakhapatnam East Assembly constituency but lost the polls.
Two days ago, the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted anticipatory bail to Satyanarayana in the Hayagriva land case.
A case was registered at Arilova police station against former MP, auditor Gammani Venkateswara Rao and builder Gadde Brahmaji following a complaint filed by Jagdeeshwardu, managing director of Hayagriva Construction.
Mr. Satyanarayana tried to acquire 12.5 acres of land in Yendada village allotted to him by the government in Jagdeeswardu for the construction of an old age home, orphanage and residence for the elderly. The complainant alleged that Satyanarayana, with the help of other accused, used forged documents to grab the land.
They were arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, fraud, forgery and criminal intimidation.
According to the complainant, the land was allotted to him in 2008 and registered with the Madhurawada Sub-Registrar’s Office in 2010.
The defendant claimed that the defendant approached him about developing the project and signed a memorandum of understanding in 2020. Jagdeeswardu alleged that the defendants forged signatures and forged sales documents.
Mr. Satyanarayana and two others maintained that the allegations were false.
