Ed Kelsey is standing up for his son Travis Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift. The father of two slammed Kanye West for referencing Travis and Taylor in his new song “Lifestyle,” featuring Lil Wayne.
Ed shared an article on Facebook about Travis, 34, and Taylor’s name appearing in songs on his album Vultures 2, writing, “Mental illness is on full display.”
In the song, Lil Wayne, 41, raps, “At the end I’m twisting Taylor’s spliff tight like Travis Kelce,” a subtle reference to the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer and her boyfriend.
Neither Taylor, 34, nor the Kansas City Chiefs tight end have yet acknowledged that Ye used their names in the song, but it marks the latest chapter in the long-running feud between the Miss Americana star and Ye, 46.
Upon the release of Taylor’s song, Swift fans were quick to defend her, with some taking to social media to slam the “Gold Digger” artist for bringing up Taylor’s name.
“He’s an attention-seeking fool,” someone wrote in the comments section of Ed’s Facebook post.
Another user praised Ed for defending Taylor in the comments section, adding: “Tell them Ed! Protect Taylor and Travis at all costs. They look amazing together!”
A third wrote via X: “Kanye West just mentioned Taylor Swift in a song again??? Pathetic, he’s too obsessed.”
The feud between Ye and Taylor began in 2009 when the “Carnival” rapper interrupted Taylor mid-speech when she was accepting the Artist of the Year award at the VMAs.
“Hey Taylor, I’m so happy for you. I’ll let you listen to the end,” Ye told the crowd after taking the mic from Taylor’s hand, “but Beyoncé’s video was one of the best ever! The best ever!”
On September 15, 2009, the “Blank Space” singer and Ye appeared to put their differences aside and call a truce after Taylor offered what she described as a “heartfelt apology.” However, it wasn’t long before the two were at each other’s throats again. The feud escalated over the years, erupting again when Ye released the song “Famous” in February 2016.
In the song, Ye raps, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that bitch famous.” He received criticism for the lyric, but claimed the “So High School” songstress gave him permission to use her name. Taylor denied the allegations, but Kim Kardashian, who was married to Ye at the time, released an audio clip of a phone call between him and Taylor.
“She totally knew it was going to get found out, and all of a sudden she wanted to act like it wasn’t there,” Kim, 43, told GQ magazine in an interview published on June 16, 2016. “My husband is really being accused of going through all the procedures, calling to get approval.”
Although Taylor appeared to approve of the line in the audio clip released by the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, she later clarified that she never gave Ye permission to call her a “bitch.”
When the “All Too Well” artist was named TIME magazine’s Person of the Year in December 2023, she slammed both Kim and Ye for their roles in their long-running feud.
“Kim Kardashian illegally recorded a phone conversation that was a completely fabricated trap, edited it, released it and told everyone I was a liar,” Taylor said.
In April 2024, Taylor released the album The Tortured Poets Department, which featured songs that were seemingly aimed at the reality TV stars and seemed to confirm that the feud between Taylor, Ye, and Kim was still ongoing.
