Elon Musk is under fire for wondering out loud which celebrities knew about widespread abuse allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Musk confronts Mr. I promised.
“How many people in the music and entertainment industry knew about this?” Musk asked his followers on October 1st.
Many were quick to point out the relationship between Musk himself and Combs, who was arrested by federal agents on racketeering and sex trafficking charges and denies any wrongdoing.
“Hmm, maybe you should have asked him when he invested in your Twitter deal,” Mack wrote to X in response to the tweet.
“How many times have you met Diddy?” asked Luke Zaleski, legal editor at Condé Nast.
“There’s literally a picture of you and Ghislaine Maxwell,” music critic Anthony Fantano added, referring to the late Jeffrey Epstein’s key ally. Maxwell and Musk were photographed together in 2014, years after Epstein reached a plea deal with Florida prosecutors on charges of sexually abusing dozens of girls.
A fund with ties to Combs is an investor in X, according to a list of funders released in federal court in August.
According to New York Times reporters Kate Conger and Ryan Mack’s new book Character Limit, Musk once boasted that he and Combs are good friends.
The claim reportedly came during a meeting in which executives from Revolt TV, the media company Combs founded, expressed concerns about growing racism against X.
“‘I don’t know if you know this, but Puff is an investor in Twitter,'[Musk]said, using Combs’ nickname,” according to the book. “‘You know, he’s a good friend of mine. We email a lot.'”
The Independent has contacted Musk for comment.
Federal prosecutors allege Combs was the architect and leader of a “criminal enterprise” involved in charges of arson, kidnapping, forced labor, bribery, obstruction of justice and sex trafficking.
Police say they recovered an assault rifle with altered serial numbers, drugs and “more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant” from Combs’ residence, an operation Combs called a “freak-off.” It is said to have been used in similar situations.
Separately, a number of women have accused the mogul of sexual misconduct.
News outlets obtained leaked video of Diddy brutally beating his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie, in a hotel hallway. He later apologized.
