The University of Auckland’s annual Engineering and IT Career Fair was held on October 3rd on the upper floors of the Auckland Center. The event was held from noon to 3 p.m. for students interested in the fields of engineering, computer science, information technology, and management information systems.

“It’s surprising. There are several (companies) that are recruiting for co-op internships, but I’m surprised at how many are actually hiring full-time,” said Luc, a bioengineering student. Mr. Tablet said. “I already have companies lined up, but it’s great to know that every company I talk to has the potential to open new doors for me,” Tablet said.

Similar to the fall career fair, students were able to network at the event and then apply for interviews with selected companies.

“Overall, it seems like some companies are very willing to talk to you on the spot and get an overview of who you are and what you want,” says Thomas, a mechanical engineering student.・Mr. Roden says. “(sit with)Career & Life Design Center) People have been really helpful, they’ve helped me a lot here at Auckland University too – shout out to them. ”

OU has organized multiple career fairs throughout the academic year to give students in specific departments an opportunity to showcase what their post-graduation studies will look like.

“We have been working with them throughout September and they are working hard to prepare and decide which employers they want to talk to,” said Dean of Career and Life Design, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. Kelly Foskich said. “So this is a big celebration of all the hard work they put in to prepare for today.”

The upper echelons of OC housed various engineering and systems companies. atomic object, siemens and Magna Shared room with atlas copco, maclean fogg and cowell health.

“We have a list of companies that have participated in our career fairs over the years,” Foskich said. “So every year…we send out all the invitations, so the same businesses are invited.”

The Engineering Career Fair has a long-established roster of companies, as many companies have chosen to return to OU after attending several times previously.

“I’m all about networking,” said Luis Gomez, an electrical engineering student. “When you try to make connections, you never know who you’re going to run into later.”

After emphasizing how helpful the event was in her field, Gomez said, “It may be worthwhile for nursing schools and other departments to hold career fairs as well, but at this point all major schools are I think it’s worth holding a career fair.”

Students and recruiters alike emphasized the importance and benefits of networking events from their respective perspectives.

“We definitely benefit by getting interns and full-time employees from these events,” said Rachel Klawanff, a recruiter at McLean Fogg. “It’s also beneficial for us to just understand what our students are looking for and what they want from their future careers.”

That’s not the only benefit. “We are always striving to improve as a company,” Klawanff said. “So we always want to get to know our students and make sure that we not only understand what Oakland students can offer, but also have some familiarity with what they want.”

“They’ve all been incredibly prepared and prepared, and we’re grateful for that. We’ve had dozens of conversations with students who seem excited about all of these opportunities. ” MacLean Fogg recruiter Nick Stauffer said of OU students. “We attend a lot of career fairs and so far this one would be in the top three. We really enjoyed our time in Oakland.”
