As expected, the new Monster Hunter game is packed with a number of quality-of-life changes that will be appreciated by series veterans and newcomers alike. One of the biggest changes is Monster Hunter: Wild’s map, which is now 3D. Previously, the map was flat while trying to convey the density of different biomes, which could be a bit confusing for players unfamiliar with the layout of the area. However, navigating Wild’s huge new environment should now be much easier.
In large battles, you’ll usually target weak spots to paralyze a monster’s movements and abilities and get monster parts. Previously, these parts would break off and appear as glowing pieces that you had to collect manually. But that’s no longer entirely the case, as when you break a monster part, you’ll now automatically pick up the smaller pieces as well, meaning you no longer have to go in and out of battles to get every last piece. Larger pieces, like tails, still need to be cut off, but you can now climb on dead monsters to harvest them. Also, if you’re running low on health after a battle or on your way to the next one and don’t want to choose between multiple potions, we’ve added a dynamic healing option that will choose the best one for you based on your health.
Interestingly, Explosive barrel You can now pick up (previously stationary) and throw them at enemies. They can also be thrown at teammates. There are a myriad of little changes like this that should make basic tasks outside of killing monsters simpler and more manageable than in the previous game. Oh, and a fun aside that I would list as a “quality of life improvement”: Explosive barrel (previously static) can now be picked up and thrown at enemies, and potentially at teammates. Teasing my friends is important to the “quality” of my “life”. It’s important!
