“What Not to Wear” stars Stacey London and Clinton Kelly are ending their decade-long feud by reteaming for a new reality TV show.
The fashion experts, who co-hosted TLC’s iconic makeover series for 10 years, will serve as hosts and executive producers of Amazon Prime Video’s style makeover show, “Wear Whatever the F You Want.” The eight-episode reality series will follow London and Kelly as they “empower each client to realize their fashion dreams and discover their personal style truth on the journey of a lifetime.”
“The world has changed so much since ‘What Not to Wear’ ran, and thankfully, so have we. These days, we’re not interested in telling people what to do based on societal norms, because the norms are gone,” Kelly and London told Variety on Monday, August 26. “But style is still an important form of communication, and we’re excited to show our new clients how to align their personal message with their life goals. Now is the time to celebrate individual style, not prescribe it.”
Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios, told the outlet: “Since Clinton and Stacey first appeared on television, they have been at the forefront of showing how to use fashion as a tool for self-empowerment. Their playful dialogue and unique approach have inspired audiences to feel more confident for almost two decades.”
“Thanks to the efforts of Bright Spot Content and the skillful direction of Jenny Volkoff, their highly anticipated reunion has become a reality. Together, Stacey and Clinton will bring Prime Video customers a fresh, fun and meaningful new series filled with expertise and inspiration, chemistry and warmth, and of course, their signature, enviable style.”
The pair will executive produce alongside Sandy Varro Jarrell, Suzanne Rauscher, Justin Rae Barnes and Janelle Couture, with Barnes also serving as showrunner. The series will be produced by All3Media’s Bright Spot Content and Amazon-MGM Studios.
Fans quickly took to social media to share their excitement over London and Kelly’s reunion. “Best breaking news in a long time!! We wanted it. We needed it. Congrats on making it happen!!” one person commented on Instagram.
“There’s something so therapeutic about all of this,” wrote another fan, while another wrote, “My favorite duo!!!!”
“What Not to Wear,” which aired on TLC, ended in 2013 after 10 seasons. The co-stars had a public falling out after the series. In 2017, Kelly revealed that London had blocked him on Twitter. That same year, he also published a collection of essays acknowledging his complicated friendship with London, writing, “I either adored her or despised her, and there was no in-between.”
However, the pair recently revealed they’d decided to end their feud during an appearance on “Today with Hoda and Jenna” in September. The reconciliation came after Kelly and London had an emotional conversation during the coronavirus pandemic.
“After seeing the same clickbait articles over and over again on Instagram about how much we hate each other, I was like, ‘I can’t take it anymore,’ because we don’t really hate each other. The truth is, we love each other,” Kelly said, appearing on TV with London. “We have very strong feelings for each other, so I reached out to Stacey and said, ‘Can we just forget about this? Let’s talk.’ And we had a really emotional conversation. This was in the middle of the pandemic, towards the end of the pandemic, and we just talked about everything.”
London admitted that she “cried her eyes out” during the conversation, and later said, “I let it all out. I told Clinton everything that made me sad, everything that hurt, everything that I thought had hurt him. All the petty grudges, all the stupid crap.”
Kelly added: “If you don’t forgive, you’re only hurting yourself. It’s the only way to live in the moment. If you’re always holding a grudge, you’re not living in the present.”
The fashion experts first reunited for a national stage tour of “The Stacey & Clinton Show” in 2023. A premiere date for “Wear Whatever the F You Want” has not been announced.
