Fenerbahce held former club Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in the Europa League, with manager Jose Mourinho sent off, leaving Erik ten Hag’s side without a win in three games in Europe this season.
Mourinho called for a penalty midway through the second half and was sent off by referee Clement Tulpin. The 61-year-old watched the rest of the game from the stands.
It came moments after Fenerbahce equalized with Youssef En-Nesyri beating Andre Onana with a downward header after the Manchester United goalkeeper made a superb double save before half-time. .
United’s defense was poor and they found themselves on the back foot after Christian Eriksen’s opening goal in the 15th minute as Ten Hag’s side fell back as their midfielders finished off a clinical counter-attack.
United remain winless in the Europa League after drawing with FC Twente and Porto. It’s been a year since our last win in Europe, a 1-0 victory over Copenhagen at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho turns heads to tell Manchester United what they’re missing
Jose Mourinho’s red card is usually seen as an aberration, but Thursday night’s red card perhaps served its purpose for Erik ten Hag. A raucous game with many subplots, not all with good reason or real payoff, provided perhaps the most entertaining show in Europe this season.
It’s Manchester United on the pitch and Mourinho off the pitch. The Portuguese has failed to exact revenge on his former club, but United have yet to maximize their lead in every Europa League game this season. This noisy 1-1 in Fenerbahce was the third draw in three matches, but the positives were once again offset by glaring flaws. Youssef En-Nesyri, who was with Sevilla in 2022/23 and ended Ten Hag’s first United European campaign, stopped his momentum following the win against Brentford.
At Mourinho’s theater, he was once given a rather harsh ejection for complaining about a rejected penalty claim. The fact that Ten Hag’s predecessors were cut here means that similar scrutiny has not been given to Ten Hag’s current problems. United just can’t seem to get going. This was actually a return to another problem.

Erik ten Hag reacts to Manchester United’s draw at Fenerbahce
Fenerbahce is a very good club, with very good fans and some good players. It’s going to be a very good final. We need to hold onto the ball more in the first half. They should have scored more goals, but to be honest they created good chances too. They gave us some problems. They are a good team with a good manager. It’s not a bad point. But we want to win. We want to win every game. ”

Erik ten Hag reacts to Manchester United’s draw at Fenerbahce
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a winless start to the Europa League, having drawn all three of his games despite leading the side three times.
“We had two tough away games. Of course you shouldn’t have that (draw) when you’re in the lead and we had chances to score the second goal. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t win. We have to win.”

Jose Mourinho’s last words: “It was a good result for Manchester United”
Jose Mourinho on Andre Onana’s performance: “Well, he saved the result. My goalkeeper didn’t make a save, he made two impossible saves in 10 seconds. He was the most decisive player in this result. Of course, he didn’t make 20 saves, but he did make two incredible saves.
“I know the British media said Manchester United didn’t play well, but I think it’s fair to say we played an exceptional game and we were better than them. It’s a good result.”

Manager Jose Mourinho was also adamant that Fenerbahce deserved to win the game, saying it was an “extraordinary performance”. United were saved by the excellent performance of goalkeeper Andre Onana, who Mourinho hailed as man of the match.
“They scored points against us, but we didn’t score points against them. We played great. When you play like this in the Turkish league, of course you earn points. The Premier League has more quality, more intensity and everything.
“I think my boys played a great game. There’s probably two or three players in England who didn’t play for Manchester United, but I don’t know how many of them didn’t play. At the start. We had four players missing and some were injured. We had to do a crazy puzzle. I couldn’t have asked for more from our players. .”

Jose Mourinho reacts to ‘unbelievable’ red card against Manchester United
Jose Mourinho was in top form, describing referee Clement Turpin as “the best in the world” after he was sent off during Fenerbahce’s Europa League draw with former club Manchester United.
“I don’t want to talk about it. (After the game) the referee said something unbelievable. He said at the same time that he saw my movement in the box and my actions on the touchline. I congratulate him because he’s really great. During the game, going 160 miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty situation and the other eye on what I was doing on the bench.
“That’s why he’s one of the best referees in the world!”

full time! Fenerbahce 1-1 Manchester United
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has told TNT Sport that Erik ten Hag’s side are in a “terrible position” in the Europa League.
“The two results I have to say are that Porto is away, it’s a tough place to go, and it’s a good draw. Fenerbahce away, a good draw. What was really disappointing was the home game, “It’s a Twente game, we should beat that team,” he says.
United have lost the lead in all three of their Europa League games this season.

full time! Fenerbahce 1-1 Manchester United
A smile before kickoff. I don’t know if Mourinho will be this happy now. We hope to hear from both managers in the near future.

full time! Fenerbahce 1-1 Manchester United
Strangely, little happened in the match after Mourinho’s red card. It had been an interesting contest up to that point, but the last half hour was terrible.
Would it be a decent draw for United? Fenerbahce has always been a difficult place to get to. But given the pressure already on Ten Hag, perhaps he needed more pressure.

full time! Fenerbahce 1-1 Manchester United
Well, that’s the summary! United won a free kick just inside Fenerbahce’s half. Instead of aiming into the box, the ball was brought back to Andre Onana and the referee gave him a full-time blow.
It was a good result for Jose Mourinho’s side. It was a disappointing result for Erik ten Hag as United are yet to win the Europa League.
This is the first time in Europe since 1981 that they have gone six games in a row without a win.
