WILLIAMSTOWN — The Williamstown Relay for Life Food Truck and Vendor Festival will be held at Tomlinson Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Last year, the Relay for Life event changed its format to renew awareness and invite more people to participate in the annual effort to fight cancer and raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s work to support patients and families affected by cancer.
“Last year was our first time participating and everyone had a great time.” “We look forward to being able to share this wonderful moment with many more people again,” said Carmen Hathaway, senior development manager at the American Cancer Society.
“Great weather is forecast.”
Eighteen food and merchandise vendors will set up stalls in the park and pay a flat fee to the association.
Food trucks will include The Hangry House, Leslie’s Grub, Qdoba, Rhodendron Ice Cream, The Sister Samurai, Sno Biz (Iced Up), Spun Sweetly, Cookie Caboose and Sips Coffee.
Vendors selling items include First Presbyterian Church, Thirty One-Kim Hunt, Craft-Jessica Rawson, Plants Etc., Paint With Joy, Basket Maker, Wax Melts, County Line Styles and Joy’s Glass.
The second annual Golf Cart Poker Run will begin and end at Tomlinson Park from 10 a.m. to noon. Organizers welcome golf carts, side-by-sides, electric bikes and lawnmowers. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.
The event will travel through Williamstown neighborhoods, where participants will visit five designated spots to participate in activities, play a poker hand or draw a Go Fish card, and win a cash prize and a $2 coupon for a food truck or concession stand per adult.
Tickets can be purchased at Haircutters and Williamstown Antique Mall or by calling 304-482-4657.
If you don’t have a golf cart, you can rent one from KMA Auto in Marietta for $20. Contact KMA by noon on Friday at 740-538-8502 and a cart will be delivered to the venue.
The Cruising for a Cure Car Show will run from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature a number of vintage and classic cars on display, but Hathaway said the show will also feature a variety of vehicles for audiences to see, from electric cars to hybrids to sports cars.
Last year’s car show had 60-75 attendees, and check-in is when people arrive.
Bingo will be held at the Firefighters Shelter in Tomlinson Park, where you can play 20 games for $20.
Seating capacity is limited to 70 people. Doors open at noon and games begin at 1:30 pm. Various prizes will be awarded.
There will also be inflatables set up for children to play on.
There will be live music by Williamstown Strings and Waverly Run.
Because the event is taking place in the afternoon instead of evening, the traditional luminaria tributes have been replaced with wind chimes, which will be available for sale for $15 and will also include a space to write the name of someone touched by cancer.
“Then people can take this home and have it as a keepsake.” Hathaway said.
Hathaway said the change in format meant people who came last year had a good time.
“I hope you’ll bring your family.” She said: “It’s a fun event for the whole family.”
